Recently, Nast Roofing Co. completed repair and maintenance work on
the roof without any cost to the Fort Lauderdale Historical Society C
the current roof was also installed by Nast in 2003.
Built in 1976 as part of the country's bicentennial
celebration, the building is a replica of the schoolhouse where Ivy
Julia Cromartie, the county's first school teacher, taught local
children. It was originally located on South Andrews Avenue and
Southeast 5 Street. Unfortunately, the original building has not
survived.
2. "The School House is a critical piece of our educational
programming. We give tours and classes there and students get to
experience what it was like to attend school in Fort Lauderdale in
1900," said Patricia Zeiler, Executive Director of the Fort
Lauderdale Historical Society. "Nast Roofing could not have
responded quicker and was so generous with their time and donation of
materials. We're very grateful to them."
The owners of Nast, Tim and Debbie Nast, jumped at the chance to
help the Historical Society. "We want to be included in anything
important to the city and we felt the Historical Society is an important
partner of Fort Lauderdale, in both education and preservation,"
said Debbie. "We think it's important that the history of Fort
Lauderdale is preserved."
Tours catering to home schooling groups, public school field trips,
camps and others are held on a weekly basis. To schedule a tour for your
student-group, please call (954) 463-4431 or send an email to
