A NEW GENERATION OF ODNL PRACTICE IS EMERGING
• From a niche to mainstream: ODeL landscape has been rapidly
changing with a growing number of new institutional providers
starting operations.
• Scalability has become critical and new forms of delivery are
having a wide impact on society (ex: MOOCs).
• The number of practitioners is expanding dramatically, but most
are not experts and are not involved in professional associations.
• The massification of ODeL practice challenges the status of the
“expert”.
• How can we support expertise in this scenario?

The Changing Scenarios, Emerging Players and New Agendas of ODnL
A NEW GENERATION OF ODNL PRACTICE IS EMERGING
• Research is shifting towards deeper learning and higher skills
development while the renewed interest in measuring learning
accompanies the trend towards an increased personalisation,
fostered by the proliferation of smart mobile devices and the
success of the BYOD philosophy.
• As ODnL practice expands and crosses borders, “quality” is
needed not only as a factor of distinctiveness and differentiation,
but also as a facilitator of mobility and interoperability.
• How can a new paradigm of teacher training practices in ODnL
designed as immersive real experiences be rapidly disseminated
worldwide?

A NEW GENERATION OF ODNL PRACTICE IMPLIES A NEW EDEN
AGENDA
• The complex and changing nature of the field of practice and the
community calls for a holistic approach.
• Engage the individual actors but also crowd source.
• Support the development of quality research in an integrated and
holistic way, improving the transferability of its results to the field of
practice, and also as a basis for political decision-making.
• Assure the cross-generational continuity of the European ODnL
legacy (theoretical foundations and experience).
• Globalize activities and impact by generating interdependences with
partner organisations through alliances and open collaboration.
• The Next-Gen EDEN will look at the ODnL scholar and professional
from a lifelong perspective.

  • 15. 15/06/2016 15António Moreira Teixeira (EDEN, UAb) LOOKING AHEAD TO THE NEXT-GEN EDEN The Changing Scenarios, Emerging Players and New Agendas of ODnL A NEW GENERATION OF ODNL PRACTICE IS EMERGING • Research is shifting towards deeper learning and higher skills development while the renewed interest in measuring learning accompanies the trend towards an increased personalisation, fostered by the proliferation of smart mobile devices and the success of the BYOD philosophy. • As ODnL practice expands and crosses borders, “quality” is needed not only as a factor of distinctiveness and differentiation, but also as a facilitator of mobility and interoperability. • How can a new paradigm of teacher training practices in ODnL designed as immersive real experiences be rapidly disseminated worldwide?

  • 18. 15/06/2016 18António Moreira Teixeira (EDEN, UAb) LOOKING AHEAD TO THE NEXT-GEN EDEN The Changing Scenarios, Emerging Players and New Agendas of ODnL A NEW GENERATION OF ODNL PRACTICE IMPLIES A NEW EDEN AGENDA • The complex and changing nature of the field of practice and the community calls for a holistic approach. • Engage the individual actors but also crowd source. • Support the development of quality research in an integrated and holistic way, improving the transferability of its results to the field of practice, and also as a basis for political decision-making. • Assure the cross-generational continuity of the European ODnL legacy (theoretical foundations and experience). • Globalize activities and impact by generating interdependences with partner organisations through alliances and open collaboration. • The Next-Gen EDEN will look at the ODnL scholar and professional from a lifelong perspective.
