2. About ECU I really enjoy being in Australia for the time being as I am being provided with a wide range and new learning opportunities at EUC which has been a great learning institution. Click for more photos of my ECU
3. Teaching and Learning with computers In this technological world, teaching and learning with computers present a challenge for both teachers and students at all levels of the education system. I strongly believe that teaching and learning with computers has great significant in realizing a future of technological working and learning environment whereby people need to be enterprising. The sharing of technological knowledge, experiences and skills would enhance our lives styles, resulting in better communication systems, economical growth and stable communities. To add to this belief is the purchase of my own lab top for study purposes and personal use.
4. Positives Computer literacy presents many learning experiences and opportunities for both teacher and students Computer literacy Effective Curriculum Processes Resources Supports to students learning Competencies Learning experiences Creativity Initiatives and productivity
5. Negatives Nevertheless, the acquisition of computing knowledge is not without its limitation and short comings. For instance, in the tiny islands of the Seychelles, the Education system has yet to fully acknowledge and embrace computer literacy in schools, right from the Early childhood age. It has become a must to expose young children to the use computer and appropriate computer software, in an effort to enhance both their intrinsic and extrinsic motivation towards technology along a pathway of multiple intelligences . Alongside the positives aspect of teaching and learning of computers in classrooms, critical consideration should be given to the quality of experiences provided to students. Critiques argues that students become complacent, use computers in meaningless ways, are provided with software which does not really respond to their needs, including inadequate teacher support .
6. Personal experiences Computers has always fascinated me as an Early Childhood teacher, but had limited confidence and opportunities to try out new ideas, hence earlier computer units had really helped me to develop that confidence. But now I feel ready to apply skills learnt in my teaching, determined to learn and upgrade my level in computer literacy from CPE4112 so as to help and assist young children back home in Seychelles.
