Different kind of search search10 provides a ‘Google-like’ access point to some of our biggest/most-useful databases that meet students expectations for simplicity and efficiency in searching and capitalizes on their comfort and confidence with technology. Unlike Google, it leads them to a relatively smaller collection of high quality academic resources.

ScienceDirect is a vast journals and ebooks collection spanning several disciplines including social sciences.

A seach10 query can quickly help the student identify alternate or more specific keywords, develop a research vocabulary, and cultivate their skills with technology. It is an ideal starting point for students beginning their college academic experience, a familiar interface to introduce them to the unseen Deep Web they did not even know existed. It is a learning tool with real world application for students and another way that faculty might enjoy integrating information literacy in the classroom.
Some of our students already know which databases that best support their academic work and some databases so directly lend themselves to particular classes and assignments that they are explicitly addressed. However, our data indicates that a number of students are unsure of how to begin their research. They tell us in library classes that they prefer to begin with Google or Wikipedia for their familiarity and broad reach. We wanted to provide another option.
