a. Exceeding the time limit during rounds
b. Bid promising
c. Allowing PNMs to take something from the chapter’s room
Strict silence prohibits contact with a PNM via
Phone call
Text messaging
Twitter
Facebook
Instagram
Snapchat
Snail mail
Carrier pigeon
Relaying a message through the PNM’s roommate
v.17  Strict silence is designated as the period of time from the end of the woman’s last
event until the issue of bids. Strict silence is defined as verbal, written, printed or
electronic communication between potential members by fraternity members, new
members, or alumnae.
True or False
On Bid Day, after the initial celebration and welcoming of new members, chapters may attend an
offcampus party with alcohol that follows national and local CPC policies regarding social
events.
Unanimous Agreement  Each College Panhellenic Association shall prohibit the use of
alcoholic beverages in membership recruitment and Bid Day activities. (This includes verbal
and visual references).
Alumnae may interact with PNMs when they are in Tri Sigma’s room.
Caveat:  Alumnae and advisors may be in the room, greet PNMs, serve food and drinks, help
direct women, and help keep the chapter on time.  The may NOT hold extensive conversations
with PNMs and be in any way involved with encouraging a PNM to “Go Sigma.”
CPC of VCU Recruitment Regulations and Guidelines.  v.21  Initiated collegiate members, new
members and inter/national fraternity
representatives may assist the chapter with membership recruitment activities.
Alumni present will be under advisement of the inter/national fraternity
representatives.
Chapter members may give a PNM a ride to formal recruitment if they are careful not to
actually talk about formal recruitment.
v.16 Normal social contact and conversation shall be allowed between potential
members and fraternity members, new members, and/or alumnae during formal
membership recruitment.
This is not considered normal.  PNMs are responsible for their own transportation.
Recruitment Counselors can encourage PNMs to go for a particular sorority.
Panhellenic Membership recruitment Handbook, page 89.  The role of recruitment counselors is
to:
Promote an understanding of the benefits of fraternity affiliation and emphasize the similarities in
ideals and goals of all women’s fraternities.
Provide encouragement to the potential new members to continue recruitment through the
Preference round during fully structured recruitment and to accept the maximum number of
invitations possible during each round of recruitment.
You may solicit fraternity men to help recruit PNMs to your chapter.
It’s appropriate to ask PNMs what other chapters they are visiting on any given day.
This can be considered intimidation
Saying something bad about another chapter might be mean, but it’s not an infraction.
III.6.ab  It is in accord with the dignity and good manners of fraternity women:
A.To avoid disparaging remarks about any fraternity or college woman;
B.To create friendly relations between fraternity and nonfraternity
women;
Alumnae are exempt from CPC policies since they are no longer students at VCU, and
their behavior cannot be enforced.
False.  Chapters can be held accountable for poor behavior by their alumnae.
v.5 All members (including alumnae and new members) are responsible for
understanding and observing the membership recruitment regulations as well as
the Virginia Commonwealth University Panhellenic Council Code of Ethics.
Sorority women may visit a PNM’s residence during formal recruitment if they are
studying for a test or working on a class project.
v.15.  No fraternity members, including new members and alumnae, may visit a
potential member in her place of residence during formal recruitment.
Since CPC is actively seeking new members to join and does not want to scared off
PNMs with the financial obligations, chapters may exclude some costs from their fact
sheets.
v.18 A factual sheet including a list of fees to be incurred by members during
collegiate membership, grade requirement, and housing obligations will be
provided to each Potential New Member by the Panhellenic Council. Each
chapter will be responsible for submitting the information to the Vice President of
Recruitment.
Chapters may have tshirts on display that have fraternity letters on them, if the
fraternity letters are on the back, or the tshirts are displayed in a way that the fraternity
letters are hidden.
Chapters may create promotional flyers for their individual chapters to be displayed in
the Commons, Shafer Court, and Larrick Student Center.
v.23  All membership recruitment publicity for the Formal Recruitment Process will
be the sole responsibility of the College Panhellenic Council through the CPC
Marketing Team which is made up of active members of the CPC community.
Any flyers or promotional items are to go through the CPC approval process.
With the exception of Phi Sigma Rho, no flyer or promotional item, other than t
shirts or bid day items will be approved for use prior to recruitment.
Chapter members may drink alcohol in the privacy of their own residencies during formal
recruitment, but may not engage in alcoholic activities with fraternity men, or outside of
their personal residences.
v.25  Per the NPC Unanimous Agreement, no sorority woman or potential new member
may have any association with alcohol starting 24 hours before the start of formal
recruitment through 24 hours after bid day. For Formal Recruitment 2013 that
would be 4:00 p.m. on Thursday August 29, 2013 through 7:00 p.m. on Monday,
September 3, 2013.
Chapters may host one philanthropy based open event in the fall before the start of
formal recruitment.
vi.2. Prior to the defined Formal Recruitment period, no sorority may host an event or
activity for the purpose of recruitment.
