2. In what ways does your media use, develop or challenge forms
and conventions of real media products?
Followed conventions:
• medium shot on front cover Challenged conventions:
• Main photo on double page • double page spread image not
spread looking at camera
• colour scheme that is followed
through out • Haven’t used a large image on
• contents page is simple contents page
3. How does your media product
represent particular social groups?
• Represents a young social group as the audience can relate to the artists
featured
• I used colloquial language throughout my article to appeal to my target
audience. I used techniques such as clipping and deletion to give the
audience a feel of inclusion.
• Look and age of artist
• Mise en scène – headphones, phone and clothing worn. These items are
worn by the audience as well.
• Colours used represents the underground seen as it is dull and tense
colours such as red and black.
4. What kind of media institution might
distribute your media product and why?
• WHSmiths
• Supermarkets
• Newsagents My magazine would
• At Music tours/concerts distribute my
magazine because it
is original, there
aren’t any 100%
grime magazines on
the market. Most
magazines only
feature grime along
with other genres.
5. Who would be the audience for
your media product?
Target audience: aged between 17-24
People that are interested in grime and upcoming music, and
unsigned artists.
Gender: both – Females that are also interested in fashion as well as
music as there are female models featured. Males that are interested
in Grime and urban music
Nationality: mostly from UK as grime has been established in the UK
6. How did you attract/address
your audience?
• Used disjointed fonts – this creates a feel that the magazine is informal and
relates to the music genre and the audience as it casual but also Grime is
sometimes seen as aggressive and so this factor can be seen with the font I
used for the title.
• Edited photos of the artists to attract my audience – The model I chose to
be my main cover is right for this magazine as the audience will be similar
age to him, also with a similar style and they can relate to him. He is posed
in a serious gaze and this shows how grime is taken seriously within the
music industry and to the audience.
• Colour scheme – I used 3 main colours, red, grey and black throughout the
magazine
• Features of magazine
• Images

do you feel you have learnt in the
progression from it to the full product?
• How to use Photoshop to a sufficient level with editing and designing
my magazine
•How to use PowerPoint in a presenting fashion
• How to take images to create the right atmosphere
I have also realised how important it is to plan, this means looking at
the location of the shot and how important mise en scene is when
planning images.
