5. UNEMPLOYMENT RATES
• In 2012, the unemployment rate of the people in Michigan is
9.3%
• President Obama has an advantage because he has lowered
Michigan’s unemployment rate from the 10.6% it was in 2008
• Seeing these results, the people of Michigan will reelect
President Obama, hoping the unemployment rate will
decrease once again

6. ETHNICITY
• The Michigan population is 80.2% white and 14.3% black
• Michigan has a larger black population than many
states, swinging the votes toward the Democratic nominee
• The African-American population has majorly voted
democratic in the past and will most likely vote democratic
in the future
7. UNIONS
• Michigan, Detroit specifically, is the
headquarters for many unions which
typically support the Democrats
• The United Auto Workers (UAW) is a
major union in Michigan where its leaders
have supported the democratic nominees
in previous elections
• The presence of unions such as UAW will
sway their members to vote for President
Obama because of the rewards a union
will usually receive when a democratic
President is in office.

8. PAST ELECTIONS
• In the 2008 Presidential Election, President Obama won
60.8% of the Michigan population
• In the 2008, the majority of the Michigan legislatures
voted were democrats in the Lower House by 6
Legislatures
• Seeing that Michigan has previously voted for the
Democratic nominees, the reasonable assumption is
that Michigan will once again lean left in hopes of
President Obama entering another 4 years in office
9. POLLS
• In the most recent polls in
Michigan, President Obama
has led Governor Romney
by 6 percentage points, well
outside the margin of error
• Not only in the most recent
poll, but for the past couple
of weeks polls have showed
President Obama has
gained a comfortable
lead, securing his grip on
Michigan

Michiganders’ issues?
