1 Initial Greetings
1.1 President of the European Karate Federation
I am very pleased to welcome all Karate fans to the 2020 EKF Cadet,
Junior & U21 Championships to be held in Budapest (Hungary), an
event to further showcase the tremendous impact of our sport in
young ages.
It is always a source of pride to corroborate the remarkable progress
of the younger generations of karatekas in major events such as the
one to take place in the capital of Hungary from February 7 to 9. I
encourage all fans from Europe and from all over the world to follow
the competition and not to miss all the action from the Budapest
Olympic Centre Arena as I am sure that we will enjoy three thrilling days of the best Karate.
Also, we will have the opportunity to see in action the future stars of our sport.
I want to take the opportunity to thank the Hungarian Karate Federation and its President Mr.
Janos Meszaros for their hard work, commitment and enthusiasm. I am confident that the
event will be a resounding success and that youngsters from all over Europe will find the best
conditions to demonstrate their outstanding abilities.
Best of luck to all the participants and organisers and a big “Oss” to all of you Karate fans.
Antonio Espinós
President of the European Karate Federation
5. 5
1.2. President of the Hungarian Karate Federation
Dear Guests, Sport Friends and Athletes,
It is a great honour to host the most prestigious event of
the rising generation of karatekas, the EKF Junior, Cadet &
U21 Championships.
I am particularly glad that only 7 years after the Senior
European Championships, Budapest is to host such an
exclusive and international karate tournament.
Hungary and Budapest, located in the heart of Europe, will do their best to officiate as host.
We would like to show good example of organization and hospitality.
As the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games approaches, the prestige of karate is noticeably growing.
Here in Budapest, we are highly committed to fulfill these expectations.
Sport has a significant role in Hungary, we have hosted several tournaments of great
magnitude in recent years.
The Junior, Cadet & U21 EKF Championships fits perfectly in this line of events.
Hereby I would like to take the opportunity to thank the European Karate Federation and for
Mr. Antonio Espinós president of the European and World Karate Federation, to choose
Budapest among the many esteemed candidates, and we are also grateful to the Hungarian
Government for their kind support.
The traditions and the high standards of this competition that were set by our predecessors
inspire us to really make this event the celebration of our beloved karate.
We sincerely hope for an exciting competition with enthusiastic spectators, and wish lots of
success, professional experiences and injury-free combats to the participants!
Mr. János József Dr. Mészáros
President of the Hungarian Karate Federation

2.1 About Budapest
Budapest is the capital of Hungary, situated in the heart of the Carpathian Basin. With the
territory of 525 km2 and 1.7 million inhabitants, it is one of the largest capital cities in the
region. It is often referred to as the „Paris of the East”; a city with wide avenues and green
parks, palaces built in the Art-Nouveau style, churches painted in vibrant colours, exciting
cafes and excellent music halls. Budapest is youthful and dynamic where modern and tradition
go hand in hand in harmony. The city is divided by the winding Danube river which is crossed
by eight splendid bridges. Budapest is one of the region’s number one and permanent host of
large international events, e.g. scientific conferences (World Science Forum), cultural events
(Sziget Festival) or sports events (2017 FINA World Aquatic Championships, 2017 IJF World
Judo Championships, 2019 FIE World Fencing Championships, Formula 1 Grand Prix). There
are many baths; Budapest is traditionally the city of baths from centuries. Touristic views,
green zones, parks, the downtown, restaurants and shopping centres are in walking distances,
or easily accessible by public transports.
3 How to get to the Championships
3.1 Flight
Budapest is easily accessible by air via Liszt Ferenc International Airport. It offers international
connections primarily within Europe, but also to Africa, to the Middle East, to North America
and to the Far East. In 2018, the airport handled 14.8 million passengers. The airport is the
headquarters and primary hub for Wizz Air and base for Ryanair. Most airlines operate daily
flight to and from Budapest; it is connected directly to every European capital. the IATA code
is BUD
3.2 Train
Another great way to come to Budapest is by train. Keleti Railway Station hosts several
international trains every day. Not only from the neighboring countries, but also has direct
trains from München, Zürich, Prague, Berlin. The popular Railjet service is also available, and
Western European cities are only a few hours travel from Budapest.
