2. Colours front cover

•
•
The colours I used on my front cover are
conventional of what would be found on
a normal indie magazine, such as
NME, so this would be appealing to the
target audience as it links to the genre of
music this magazine is interested in.
The whites and blacks I used were quite
neutral colours, so could appeal to either
gender of the target audience.
The colour red connotes passion, which
could link to the genre of the magazine
and make the artists seem passionate
about their music, appealing to the
audience. This red colour could also be
appealing to females as it is seen as a
more feminine colour.
The red and white colours would appear
quite casual which links closely to the
genre of indie, as the artists are seen as
laid back, so would appeal to the target
audience.
3. Colours contents page

On my contents page I followed
the house style from the front
cover, which would help the
audience make a recognition
between the pages.
The bright red would again
appeal to a female target
audience
The black colours are
stereotypically seen as a more
masculine colour, so would
appeal to the male audience.
These colours are typical of an
indie magazine so help to give
my magazine the feel of an indie
genre so would appeal to the
audience.
The white and black colours are
neutral, so would appeal to either
gender in the target audience.

the name of the band stand out
and be easily noticed by the
audience.
5. Fonts
•
•
•
•
I have used a sans serif font on
each of my pages as it looks
professional and clear, which
would appeal to the target
audience.
The font I used on my masthead
stands out against the rest and is
the largest so it is the main focus
for the target audience.
I have put the more important
information in bigger text to appeal
to the audience.
The names of the indie artists
mentioned are in a bolder font to
appeal to the audience as it will be
one of the first things they notice.

I have varied the font for the body text so it doesn’t look
too plain.

largest so it is easily
noticed.

6. Content
• On my front cover I have mentioned indie bands, such as The 1975. This would
appeal to the target audience as they are bands you would expect to see in a
magazine of this genre.
• Also, I have used bands that are familiar with people in the age range of my
target audience to try and appeal to them and make them interested in the
magazine.
• The text used would intrigue the audience members to want to read the
magazine as I have used words such as ‘controversial’. This would appeal to the
target audience as they would be intrigued as to what is controversial.
• The image I have used could appeal to the audience as the clothing worn is
quite modern and casual, appealing to the audience. This is also clothing which
is worn by the age range that my magazine is aimed it, so it would be appealing
to them.
• On my contents page I have featured a picture of the front cover to create
recognition between the pages to try and appeal to the audience.
• I have used indie artists which the target audience would be familiar with as they
are popular in the genre and age range of the audience.
• The language I have used isn’t too formal and mentions social networking
sites, which are popular within the age of the target audience, so would appeal
to them.
• The main image used shows clothing which is contemporary, so would appeal to
the teenagers in the target audience.

to the audience as they may be able to relate
to it and it is colloquial language, so is
relatable for the target audience.
8. Layout
The layout of my magazine is ordered and clear. This is as it follows the route of the
eye, which is appealing to the target audience. This would be appealing as it would be
easy to find the important information and what they would want to read about. The
clear layout would make it easy to read the information and see what the magazine
includes. I have used the left third on my cover as this is seen as the part of the
magazine that the reader may look at first. I have put the artists included on the left third
to appeal to the target audience as they would be able to find the artists they like and
decide if they want to read. The ordered layout would be appealing to the age included
in my target audience as a cluttered layout would appeal more to a younger target
audience. The ordered layout makes it look more professional, which would appeal to
the audience.
