2. What Is Glass Etching?
Glass Etching: the process of treating areas ofglass
to create a roughened, frosted glass design.
Glass Etching Cream:contains a
diluted acid that lightly eats away
at the surface of glass
Example: Armour Etch® is common
brand of glass etching cream
3. Etching Process
1. Create your design using
masking tape.
2. Wash glass well in
warm, soapy water and
dry completely.
3. Apply your masking tape
design onto the plate.
4. Use a popsicle stick to seal
down every single edge
of tape.

5. Use a sponge brush to apply a
thick layer of etching cream to
the exposed glass portions of
your plate. Let etching cream
sit for 15 minutes.
6. Rinse the cream thoroughly
with warm water. Remove
masking tape and throw away
in the garbage can.
Your etched design will be visible
once glass is completely dry!

• Apply etching stencil to clean glass with
popsicle stick
• Brush on etching cream
• Let sit, then wash off cream
and stencil with water
6. What Is Glass Staining?
Glass Staining: creating a design
using liquid leading, and then
painting color onto glass creating
a transparent effect
Glass stain can be applied to
anything glass:
ornaments, suncatchers, glass
bottles, windows, dishes, vases…
7. Liquid Leading Process
1. Sketch the design you will be
leading and staining onto your
bowl.
2. Wash bowl well in
warm, soapy water. Rinse with
warm water. Dry completely.
3. Hold Liquid Leading bottle 1-
inch above the surface of your
bowl, and squeeze to create
your design. Let dry overnight.

4. To stain glass, dip brush
desired color and drip
stain onto segments of
your bowl. Gently
spread stain until it
covers entire segment.
5. Leave your glass bowl to
dry for a few days to
seal your design.
