4. Features of LibreOffice project
● Developing a very famous open source office suite
● Community-driven projects, not company-centric
● An open development process where everyone can join and
contribute
● Volunteers from all over the world
● LibreOffice support companies / organizations are also part of
the community
● Ex. Collabora, Redhat, CIB, NISZ, Munich...

● About 10 people are employed to support the

11. Release and Security fix
● Released twice a year since 2011
Minor releases almost every month
● Security issues are very quickly supported by version
update
● Enterprise users often use the LTS version provided by
ecosystem companies because it is difficult to update
to the latest version every month.

● In addition to core development, there are
projects in each area
● Design, QA, marketing, documentation, infrastructure, etc…
● Also Native Language Project (NLP)

15. What is a Native Language Project?
● Native Language Project that translates, QA,
marketing, etc... for each language
● Korea(KO) and Japanese(JA) are one of NLP
● There are more than 100 language projects
● Include inactive projects

16. Collaboration between the global community and NLP(local) community
● Local communities operates independently, following
the overall framework
● loosely-coupled collaboration with the global
community
● For example, the discussion about localization is on the global
l10n mailing list

17. Differences in the formation of the each language communities
● Different language communities have different cultures and
areas of focus
● Each language community has a history since the
OpenOffice.org era
● Also influenced by key person characters
● In the German community, the software was originally
German, so the number of users was large from the beginning
and it was active

18. Launch of JA community
● 2010.9.28: JA community members did not have
LibreOffice founding members
● Immediately, joined from OpenOffice.org and other
OSS community, other members gathered and started
● The Japanese team was formed in 2011 by members of
the Japanese community to support the JA community

● Discussion of bug reproduction information
● Information exchange between users

● Information exchange when in trouble, whether it is a
bug: web forums and JA mailing list

● The first LibreOffice Asia conference will be held in
Tokyo in 2019
● Asia and CJK communities are strengthening
collaboration
● Especially the LibreOffice community in Taiwan and
Indonesia is also active

Conclusion
● The LibreOffice community is creating TDF and
steadily developing it
● NLP / local community and global community are
loosely linked
● Let's further strengthen collaboration in the
LibreOffice East Asian community together!
