11. Our Acetyls Assets In Asia Kertih, Malaysia BP has a 70% interest in an Acetic Acid joint venture (BPPA) with Petronas. This site is operated by BP and carbon monoxide feedstock is provided by our partner, Petronas. BP's share of capacity is 391 thousand tonnes per year. Mai Liao, Taiwan In Mai Liao Taiwan, BP has a 50% interest in an Acetic Acid joint venture (FBPC) with Formosa BP Chemicals Corporation. The joint venture has one unit which started up in 2005. It is integrated with Formosa's Mai Liao site and has a pipeline linking it with downstream customers. Nanjing, China Construction of the new 500 thousand tonnes per year Acetic Acid plant in Jiangsu province, China by BP YPC Acetyls Company (Nanjing) Limited (BYACO) was completed in 2009. This is a BP joint venture with Yangzi Petrochemical Company Limited (a subsidiary of Sinopec). Commercial production is expected to begin in the third quarter of 2010. Chongqing, China BP has a 51% interest in the YARACO joint venture with Sinopec Sichuan Vinylon Works (44%) and Chongqing Energy Investment Group. This was BP's first Acetic Acid investment in mainland China. The site is integrated with an Esters plant. BP and Sinopec continue to progress the project to add a new Acetic Acid plant at the site. The expected plant start-up date is under review due to market conditions. When complete, total production at the YARACO site is expected to be in excess of one million tonnes per year, making this one of the largest Acetic Acid production locations in the world. Ulsan, South Korea In UIsan, South Korea, BP has a 51% interest in an Acetic Acid joint venture (SSBP) with Samsung and a 34% interest in a Vinyl Acetate Monomer (VAM) joint venture (ASACCO) with Samsung and Dow. There is one Acetic Acid production unit and one VAM unit. The SSBP site is linked by pipeline to downstream facilities and has two carbon monoxide feedstock units.
