Abstract
The aging workforce will soon lead to massive number of retirements in SMEs that can’t
be compensated for by the smaller number of succeeding individuals. On the other hand,
knowledge is viewed as the key resource that needs to be developed and stay competitive.
Consequently, SMEs need to find ways to cope with the demographic challenge and its
possible consequences in order to stamp the pending loss to their knowledge repository. If
they fail to address this challenge, their knowledge stock is especially vulnerable when
critical staff leaves. This talk by Susanne Durst will address the above challenge and more
in detail.
