One of the world’s great deserts, covers
much of Southern Mongolia.
There are few sand dunes here;
Rather you’ll find large barren expenses of
gravel plains and rocky outcrops.

Plateaus
Tibetan Plateau
- A large, elevated region in Central Asia.
- It lies mainly within China and covers all the Tibet
Autonomous Region and much of Qinghai
province.
- It is located in the Southwestern part of China.

Mongolian Plateau
- Part of the Central Asian Plateau.
- Bounded by the Greater Hinggan Mountains (east),
Yin Mountains (south), Altai Mountains (west) and
the Sayan and Khentii Mountains (north).
- It is located in Mongolia.

Great mountain system of Asia forming a
barrier between the Plateau of Tibet to the
north.
Include the highest mountains in the world.
Found at the border of India.

9. Huang Ho River
Also known as the Yellow River.
It has Yellow – Brown soil
“muddiest river in the world”
It is located in Eastern part of China.
10. Yangtze River
Important for trade.
China’s largest waterway, 3rd longest in
the world.
3 Gorges Dam:
- Provides hydroelectric power and controls flooding.
- Problems with the dam:
>> Its construction flooded valuable farmlands.
>> Caused people to have to leave their homes.
>> Flooded ancient cities and landmarks.
11. Yangtze River
Also known as the Yangzi River.
It is located in the Tanggula Mountains in
Qinghai Province, China.
12. Xi Jiang River
This river is important for farming.
- Good climate, water, and soil.
The river is located in the western part of
China.
13. Japan
Japan is separated from mainland East
Asia by the Korea Strait and Sea of Japan
(or East Sea).
Japan is made up of 4 large islands.
