10. Autobiography of a Reader
Student Sample/ Draft
My family has always been very attached to reading. I started reading at age five with short picture books and now at age fourteen have
progressed to large chapter books. I would call myself an avid reader because I love to read and I read quite frequently. Being an avid
reader has helped me with many things. It has improved my vocabulary tremendously, as well as taught me about places or things I didn’t
know about before.
There are two people that really helped me to love reading; my mother and my old librarian, Mrs. Hart. They taught me that books are
these passageways to a whole new world. When you really connect with a book, you begin to love the characters and it feels like you’re in
the story. You cry when something bad happens or rejoice when something good happens. I think that’s one of the coolest things in the
reading world. And, by teaching me to love and to care for books, my mom and Mrs. Hart gave me the chance to experience that feeling.
As I grow older, my passion for reading will never die. I will teach my kids to love reading as I have come to know and love it.
