This sense of mystery was successful in making most of the audience want to watch the rest of the film.
6. Did you feel a sense of enigma throughout the opening
scene?
Yes
No
7. Does the opening sequence make you want to watch the
rest of the film?
Yes
No
8. I have made my product appealing to the audience
through the use of lighting in my opening scene. The
lighting in my opening is dark so it is conventional to
the crime genre. The soundtrack in my opening scene
fits the crime genre as it is quite slow paced and
doesn’t use a lot of instrument so it has more of a
natural feel. The main camera angle I used throughout
my opening sequence was mid shots, this shot was
used to show that throughout this sequence no
character had a large amount of power or authority.
• Our narrative attracted the audience as it is
mysterious and raises enigma, this is conventional to
the crime genre. It is mysterious as you do not know
much about the characters except that they are
criminals. This is shown in our questionnaire where
most people said that not too much was given away in
the opening sequence. This would attract more people
to watch our film as they would want be interested to
know what happens next.
9. The genre of our film was represented through
the props seen in our opening scene. The mise-
en-scene of my opening scene shows props
such as money drink drugs and guns. This
combined with the characters wearing suits
and the dark lightning helps bring about the
narrative and genre of our film.
The titles used in the opening sequence is of a
white font over a black background. This is
binary opposition as it foreshadows the later
events of our film. This tells the audience that
there will be conflict and violence throughout
our film.
