2. To Silicon Cape…
“The Silicon Cape vision is of an
ecosystem in the Western Cape of
South Africa, that serves to attract
and bring together local and foreign
investors, the brightest technical
talent, and the most promising
entrepreneurs, to foster the creation
and growth of world-class IP start-up
companies in an environment that
competes with other similar hubs
around the world against the backdrop
of one of the most beautiful settings
and pleasant places to live, work and
play on the globe. ”

14. The Concept
…the emergence of a local • The concept of the Silicon Cape is not
owned or controlled by any single
Silicon Valley come true…
entity.
• It is a living community and an organic,
ever-developing concept in the hearts
and minds of every participant, which
endeavours to catalyse the local IP
entrepreneurial community.
The Initiative
Aims to start a conversation…
Planting a seed and fostering the
concept of the Silicon Cape in
people’s minds and on their lips
around the world as the emerging
Silicon Valley of Africa.
To create an environment and a
perception of the area as a world-
class location and destination that
is not only capable of delivering
but already is.

22. Despite the bandwidth deprivation, the continent of Africa is home
to 65.9 million internet users, growing to a rate of 1,359,9% over the
last 9 years. With the US$650 million, 1.28 (Tb/s)
under-sea fibre optic cable (SEACOM) laid on the eastern seaboard
of Africa – significant changes in those stats can indeed be expected.
Also, with this enormous capacity, the cable
will enable high definition TV, peer
networks,
IPTV and “The next Google could and
surging should be coming out of Africa”

demand.
Thus creating widespread opportunities for
governments and the business community to
compete globally and drive economic growth.
