the chapter. Why did they join? Who most influenced
that decision? What lessons can we learn from this?

Step 1: Know the Basics
  The basics of an organization are the people and its
purpose.
  Knowing the BASICS means:
  To live our purpose of friendship, character and conduct
  To recruit quality women to be a part of our sisterhood
The purpose of Kappa Delta Chi shall be to promote the traditional
values of Unity, Honesty, Integrity, and Leadership of its members.
An organization dedicated to service for institutions of higher
education and underrepresented communities, with special
emphasis on the Hispanic/Latino population; a servitude
based on love and friendship.

Step 2: A.C.E. Your Values
  Achieving
  Communicating
  Expecting
When we ACE our values as a chapter:
  We create a better campus and community image
  We have more sisters involved in recruiting new members
  Our potential new members have a better understanding of
who we are

Step 3: Get Motivated
  Build a dream: Wouldn’t it be great if our chapter… and
fill in the blank.
  Remember: It only took one woman to recruit you.
  A motivation parable…

Step 4: Know Your Audience
We know there are 3 types of women on campus:
  Always joiners (15%)
  Maybe joiners (70%)
  Never joiners (15%)
  Quantity drives quality
  So how do we find these women…?

!
Step 5: Know Your Product
  30-second elevator speech…GO!
  Think of the top 10 excuses to not join a sorority, and
respond to these excuses using the three Fs:
  I know how you feel. I felt that way too before I joined. I was
really worried about my grades and that they might suffer.
What I found was a great support network and tutor
program to help me with my academic life.

Step 6: Develop Skills
  When meeting people:
  Stand (if sitting), extend your hand for a firm handshake,
smile, and make eye contact.
  After you meet someone, repeat her name in the next
sentence.

  Five fabulous conversation starters: (1) family/friends, (2)
favorites, (3) from, (4) fun, and (5) future
  Hang out doing normal friend activities.
  Evaluate your PR: Does it communicate our Values?
And is it the same across all platforms?

Step 7: Grow Wiser
  Have you consulted with your resource team?


  • 3. Reflection   What was the moment you knew you wanted to join KDChi? Who most influenced this decision?   Think about the women who never got very involved in the chapter. Why did they join? Who most influenced that decision? What lessons can we learn from this?   What actually works to get amazing and committed women to join KDChi? What things do you do that might look silly/ridiculous to an outsider? !
  • 4. Eight Steps to Limitless Possibility 1.  Know the Basics 2.  A.C.E. Your Values 3.  Get Motivated 4.  Know your Audience 5.  Know your Product 6.  Develop Skills 7.  Grow Wiser 8.  Repeat !
  • 5. Step 1: Know the Basics   The basics of an organization are the people and its purpose.   Knowing the BASICS means:   To live our purpose of friendship, character and conduct   To recruit quality women to be a part of our sisterhood The purpose of Kappa Delta Chi shall be to promote the traditional values of Unity, Honesty, Integrity, and Leadership of its members. An organization dedicated to service for institutions of higher education and underrepresented communities, with special emphasis on the Hispanic/Latino population; a servitude based on love and friendship. !
  • 6. Step 2: A.C.E. Your Values   Achieving   Communicating   Expecting When we ACE our values as a chapter:   We create a better campus and community image   We have more sisters involved in recruiting new members   Our potential new members have a better understanding of who we are !
  • 7. Step 3: Get Motivated   Build a dream: Wouldn’t it be great if our chapter… and fill in the blank.   Remember: It only took one woman to recruit you.   A motivation parable… !
  • 8. Step 4: Know Your Audience We know there are 3 types of women on campus:   Always joiners (15%)   Maybe joiners (70%)   Never joiners (15%)   Quantity drives quality   So how do we find these women…? !
  • 9. Step 5: Know Your Product   30-second elevator speech…GO!   Think of the top 10 excuses to not join a sorority, and respond to these excuses using the three Fs:   I know how you feel. I felt that way too before I joined. I was really worried about my grades and that they might suffer. What I found was a great support network and tutor program to help me with my academic life. !
  • 10. Features vs. Benefits Feature Benefit Supporting Statement Scholarship Tutors Study hours Scholarships My sophomore year I was not doing well in biology. Every day a sister who was a biology major tutored me and I got an A in the class. !
  • 11. Step 6: Develop Skills   When meeting people:   Stand (if sitting), extend your hand for a firm handshake, smile, and make eye contact.   After you meet someone, repeat her name in the next sentence.   Five fabulous conversation starters: (1) family/friends, (2) favorites, (3) from, (4) fun, and (5) future   Hang out doing normal friend activities.   Evaluate your PR: Does it communicate our Values? And is it the same across all platforms? !
  • 12. Step 7: Grow Wiser   Have you consulted with your resource team?         Chapter advisor Chapter and regional alumnae Regional Chair Greek Life staff   How many chapter members participate in campus leadership development activities outside of KDChi? !
  • 13. Step 8: Repeat   Recruitment is a year-round process, and in order to do it well, you must:   Learn the skills   Practice, and   Repeat. !
