Cradle Fund Sdn Bhd (Cradle) is an agency under the Ministry of Finance, Malaysia (MOF) which manages the Cradle Investment Programme (CIP) since its inception in 2003.
Let’s look at the grants offered under CIP. First we have the Pre-seed grant. Pre-seed is divided into two categories which CIP Catalyst for the general public – (refer criteria) And the U-CIP Catalyst is for universities, colleges and research institutes – (refer criteria) – Because will usually involve a third party signing with the university/research institute. I believe most of you here would fall under the CIP Catalyst category. The key thing you need to remember is that the CIP and U-CIP Catalyst is specifically for prototype development. Batch closing: every end of the month (on-going) Approval timeline: 10-14 weeks Developmental Period: 12 months Mobilisation Fee: 10% upfront for each tranche Payment basis: upfront 10% mobilisation fee, reimbursement (based on original receipts) & direct disbursement to suppliers Repayment trigger point: 1 year monitoring period, for every 500k secure, pay back 50k – so if 1.5mil, pay back up to amount of disburse + 4% admin fee – installment basis
Next, we have for Seed, the CIP 500 – (refer criteria) The key thing to remember is that CIP 500 is for product commercialisation. No batch closing: On-going Approval timeline: 3-4 months Funding Period: 12-18 months Repayment trigger point: 2 years monitoring period, accumulative revenue of 2.5mil AND profit 300k – pay back half of the amount disburse + 4% admin fee – installment basis
