Google announced plans to launch an ultra-fast fiber optic internet service in several cities across the U.S., with speeds up to 100 times faster than average broadband and TV services delivered over the same network. The first city to receive Google Fiber is Kansas City, where construction began in 2012 and internet speeds up to 1 gigabit per second are now available to over 20,000 homes, with TV services to follow. Google aims to expand the service to additional cities depending on the success in Kansas City.
