Background: OHSU School of Nursing
•  School divided by Graduate and Undergraduate
Nursing Programs
•  Graduate programs were 2 years into utilizing
CBT
•  Graduate programs broken up into each
program specialty
•  Smaller groups to pilot
•  Dean wanting to transition into CBT for the school
in it’s entirety
•  No longer utilizing scantron machine
•  Laptops that can function w/ ExamSoft
software now required for ALL students
•  Implementation of ExamSoft for Undergraduate
program
Timeline
•  Computer policy in place as of Fall 2015 for ALL incoming
students
•  Official implementation start as of Summer 2015 (July 1,
2015)
•  Fall term start date Sept 28, 2015
•  Three months to train fall term faculty for preparation for
using ExamSoft

Preparation for training sessions
•  We offered one training each month w/ 1:1
trainings by appt.
•  One training is approx. 1.5 hours long
(depending on Q & A)
•  Allow faculty to log into ExamSoft prior to
training (not required)
•  Create sandbox type of environment for using
ExamSoft for class (ie. Sample folders,
questions, categories)

Creating Effective CBT Training for Nursing Educators

Topics covered in this session: •  Determine timeline for implementation to meet the goals of your respective school •  Create lesson plan for ExamSoft training •  Ways to train faculty so they can autonomously utilize ExamSoft •  Things to consider when creating your trainings •  Tips for receiving feedback on trainings
  • 3. Background: OHSU School of Nursing •  School divided by Graduate and Undergraduate Nursing Programs •  Graduate programs were 2 years into utilizing CBT •  Graduate programs broken up into each program specialty •  Smaller groups to pilot •  Dean wanting to transition into CBT for the school in it’s entirety •  No longer utilizing scantron machine •  Laptops that can function w/ ExamSoft software now required for ALL students •  Implementation of ExamSoft for Undergraduate program
  • 4. Timeline •  Computer policy in place as of Fall 2015 for ALL incoming students •  Official implementation start as of Summer 2015 (July 1, 2015) •  Fall term start date Sept 28, 2015 •  Three months to train fall term faculty for preparation for using ExamSoft
  • 7. Ideal characteristics of trainings •  Time •  Flexibility •  Accessible •  Simple training structure (overview of CBT software) •  Q & A format for faculty specific questions •  Layout of support structures •  Opportunity for giving feedback •  Fun and engaging!

Preparation for training sessions •  We offered one training each month w/ 1:1 trainings by appt. •  One training is approx. 1.5 hours long (depending on Q & A) •  Allow faculty to log into ExamSoft prior to training (not required) •  Create sandbox type of environment for using ExamSoft for class (ie. Sample folders, questions, categories)

  • 11. Overall Goal •  Our overall goal was to introduce ExamSoft to faculty so they have the basic tools to further their knowledgebase on CBT. •  Variation in utilizing CBT
