Training faculty in using computer-based testing can be a challenge. The Oregon Health and Science University’s School of Nursing and has developed faculty-friendly training process for the on-boarding of technology for their program. Through the development process, they have learned that some methods are more effective than others, especially when teaching faculty that are used to administering exams in paper format. This presentation will share points to consider when training faculty that also have clinical jobs outside of their busy academic careers.

3. Background: OHSU School of Nursing
• School divided by Graduate and Undergraduate
Nursing Programs
• Graduate programs were 2 years into utilizing
CBT
• Graduate programs broken up into each
program specialty
• Smaller groups to pilot
• Dean wanting to transition into CBT for the school
in it’s entirety
• No longer utilizing scantron machine
• Laptops that can function w/ ExamSoft
software now required for ALL students
• Implementation of ExamSoft for Undergraduate
program

• Computer policy in place as of Fall 2015 for ALL incoming
students
• Official implementation start as of Summer 2015 (July 1,
2015)
• Fall term start date Sept 28, 2015
• Three months to train fall term faculty for preparation for
using ExamSoft

trainings by appt.
• One training is approx. 1.5 hours long
(depending on Q & A)
• Allow faculty to log into ExamSoft prior to
training (not required)
• Create sandbox type of environment for using
ExamSoft for class (ie. Sample folders,
questions, categories)
