Why are we here?
• VDOT Summer repaving includes Kingstowne Village
Parkway. Project limited to restriping existing pavement.
– Kingstowne Village Parkway from Beulah Street to South Van
Dorn Street is scheduled to be repaved
• Opportunity to improve vehicular safety, improve traffic flow,
add bicycle facilities, improve pedestrian safety
– Beulah Street to Hayfield Road
• Low to no cost for the County

• Removing travel lanes from a roadway and reallocating
the space for other uses
• Rule of thumb: Roads with less than 20,000 vehicles per
day don’t need four travel lanes
• Kingstowne Village Parkway: 6,000 vehicles per day

– Both sites recorded faster speeds going
westbound than eastbound
• 4 lanes and low traffic volumes encourage
fast driving

• Projects potential of 17,826 new, external
vehicle trips after complete build out

• 9 separate locations between Buelah Street and Hayfield
– Elementary School: regular runs - 14 stops
– Middle School: regular and late runs - 3 stops
– Secondary School: regular and late runs - 4 stops
• Bus drivers are told that they may wait for a queue to clear
