Description:
The Golden Woods Pond Retrofit project was substantially completed on August 9, 2016, on time and within budget. The existing
pond (ID# 0469DP) is located within the Pond Branch Watershed. The site is within a residential neighborhood and access is from
Golden Woods Pond Court to the south. The work included retrofit of an existing SWM pond, removing a concrete trickle ditch,
dedication of a new access easement, and restoration of an equestrian trail that was damaged by storm runoff. The site was graded for
positive drainage and restored with selective seed mix.
Project Overview:
• Coordinating with Dominion Virginia Power and Cox Cable to relocate underground facilities prior to construction
• Removing an existing overgrown rip rap area and concrete trickle ditch
• Constructing an imbricated stone plunge pool
• Constructing 100-feet of bioswale with underdrain
• Providing boulder check dams for energy dissipation
• Fabricating imbricated stone step pools
• Regrading and enlarging the existing pond
• Installing a new control structure connected to an existing outfall pipe
• Replacing a failed 15-inch CMP culvert with a 48-inch RCP culvert
• Furnishing sod and landscape planting

• Total Nitrogen Reduction - 129.34 lb/yr
• Total Phosphorus Reduction - 10.84 lb/yr
• Total Suspended Solids Reduction - 7,584.52 lb/yr
