Description
• Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority (MWAA) is building the
DCMP
• Phase 2 begins west of Wiehle Avenue and ends at Route 772 in
eastern Loudoun County
• All stations at-grade or above grade
• Phase 2 is a 11.4 mile extension and includes 6 stations and 5
parking garages:
– Reston Parkway
– Herndon-Monroe (1,950 new parking spaces, existing 1,600 parking
spaces remain)
– Route 28 (2,000 parking spaces)
– Dulles Airport
– Route 606 (1,950 parking spaces)
– Route 772 (2 garages 3,000 parking spaces)

• Estimates are consistent with the Memorandum of
Agreement’s Targeted Project Reductions
• Forecasted difference between Preliminary Engineering
and Independent Estimate is due to different rates of
inflation (3.0% Preliminary Est. vs. 4.5% Independent
Est.)
• Costs associated with the Route 28 station and parking
garages fall back into the project if the County is unable
to secure alternative methods to fund these elements
that are cost neutral to Fairfax County

• The Metro Board did not approve previous names
submitted by the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors
• Previous names were repetitive, not unique, and
potentially confusing to riders and non-riders alike
(“Tysons, Tysons, Tysons, Tysons;” “Reston, Reston;”
“Herndon, Herndon”)
• WMATA criteria:
– Relevant: Identify station locations by geographical features, centers of
activity or be derived from the names of communities, neighborhoods or
landmarks within one-half mile;
– Brief: Limited to 19 characters with spaces and punctuation;
– Unique: Distinctive and not easily confused with other station names;
– Evocative: Evoke imagery in the mind of the patron.
