The Maintenance and Stormwater Management Division of Public Works and Environmental Services coordinated with the Fairfax County Police Department’s Wildlife Management team to assist displaced fish and turtles living in the pond.

Description:
Fairfax Police Academy Pond Improvement Project was substantially completed in December 2017. The project consisted of
the removal of trees on the dam, removal of sediment from the existing pond to bring back to original design, and
replacement of existing corrugated metal pipe culvert with new reinforced concrete pipe culvert at the inflow location. The
maintenance of the volume of the pond will help to ensure the pond provides the water quality benefits that it was
designed for. During construction, MSMD coordinated with the Fairfax County Police Department’s Wildlife Management
team to assist displaced fish and turtles living in the pond.
Project Overview:
• Removal of trees on the dam and adjacent parking lot.
• Removal of approximately 1,000 cubic yards of sediment from the pond.
• Flushing of clogged inflow pipe and installation of riprap in inflow channel.
• Replacement of existing CMP culvert with new RCP culvert at the inflow.
