Anticipated Closure Schedule
Throughout the following sequence, DPWES and DEQ will continue to actively regulate the site.
• Continue waste disposal until the end of 2018. Concurrently, areas not subject to further waste or cover
soil placement seeded and mulched.
• 2019 - “Final Closure” begins. Construction of final cap and remaining side-slopes cover, establish
vegetative cover, install SEA-required features, where possible. Environmental monitoring and controls
continue.
• 2019-2020 – licensed P.E. certifies that closure has been completed. Signs and access barriers are
installed. Notations on property deed. DEQ inspects the site and confirms that site can enter the “Post-
Closure Care” period.
• 2020-2030 (at least) – Post-Closure Care. Environmental monitoring and controls continue. Regrading to
address differential settlement as needed, as well as repairs and maintenance of structures, ponds, final
cover, fences, etc.
• 2030 or later – licensed P.E. certifies that Post-Closure Care has been completed. Certification must
include an assessment that there is no significant increased risk, should monitoring and maintenance stop.
DEQ conducts final inspection, and issues approval to terminate post-closure care. The property is no
longer regulated as a landfill
