Description:
The Maintenance and Stormwater Management Division completed 7,883 linear feet (1.5 miles) of
stormwater conveyance system cured-in-place pipe lining projects during Fiscal Year 2017. Liners
from 15 to 48 inches in diameter were installed within 55 deteriorating storm pipe segments, as old
as 68 years. Trenchless technology methods were used on these pipe segments avoiding land
disturbance, tree removal, and eliminating conflicts with underground utilities. This method of
renewal extends the service life by at least 50 years and minimizes potential failure of the storm
pipes in residential areas. In some cases, the soil type and pipe depth would have resulted in
excavating near dwelling foundations if the pipe segment was replaced.
Project Overview:
Install cured-in-place pipe liners in 7,883 linear feet of storm drainage pipes
Project Team:
Design: Jack Meritt, P.E. (MSMD), Pleasants Construction, Inc.
Project Managers: Jonathan Murray (MSMD), Amy Linderman (MSMD)

Typical improvement to storm pipe by inserting the liners. The liners seal pipe separations and
openings from damage or corrosion, and restore structural stability to the deteriorating pipe
material, extending the service life by at least 50 years.
