Hello and welcome to the CW.com IT blog awards 2009 I’m James Garner and I’m your host for the night… we don’t have any entertainment unfortunately… apart from a twitterwall and me…! So welcome everyone to Shoreditch House for our 2009 IT blog awards, brought to you in association with IBM. So some quick highlights of this year’s awards. These are only the second time we have run these awards, and there is no doubt that this year’s has been bigger and better than last years. What’s changed – Firstly, we’ve had a sponsor and I’d like to thank IBM for their support. Andrew Flack. ???? At IBM will be presenting the final award tonight We’ve added new categories – the twitter user of the year, in recognition of the rise of twitter phenomenon and the way it has been picked up and used in the tech scene. We also added two new individual categories – IT professional male and a separate category for female IT professionals, because we want to highlight the role that women can play in the tech sector, in which they are poorly represented. So in this year’s awards had more than 400 blogs nominated, a 100 more than last year, and we had 12,500 votes cast, a massive 3,500 more than in last year’s awards

Last year’s overall Best of the Blogs winner – It’s the Geek in Disguise AKA Steve Clayton with 21% of the vote

A hugely competitive category and closely battled out at the top… with
Runner up tech start up blogging site – TechCrunch with 18%
Winning – for the second time tonight the folks from Capgemini have come up trumps –
Girls n Gadgets – Leila Gilley
With 26% of the vote – she may not have the IT professional female, but she’s come up trumps in the project management category… well done Helen

Winner in the mostly popular category with over 2k votes and 33% of the votes goes to Graham Cluley’s blog

37 twitterers nominated and put to the public vote – in the most intriguing category that pitted some big tech media hitters such as BBC tech correspondent Rory Cellan Jones, TechCrunch’s Mike Butcher and the Guardian’s Charles Arthur, against twitterati Stephen Fry, and those who the tech sector that tweet
Runners up were @stephenfry, who DM’d his apologies for not being able to attend, and @rickmans of Capgemini, who has been suffering with flu and can’t make it.
This years winner of the tech twitter user of the year award goes to Graham Cluley with a massive 27% of the vote and a winner by a mile…
