 Provide overall management of patients in intensive care and other areas of the hospital as required (e.g. participate in
medical emergency response teams, outreach services and intra and inter-hospital transport of critically ill and injured
patients).
 Make decisions on patient care, which are implemented by medical staff.
 Formulate plans of management and co-ordinate appropriate consultation with other specialities.
 Select and arrange appropriate investigations.

o Renal: insufficiency or failure, electrolyte and acid base disorders, rhabdomyolysis
o Endocrine disorders: adrenal insufficiency, diabetic emergencies, thyroid storm
o Gastrointestinal: pancreatitis, gastrointestinal bleeding, hepatic failure
o Pharmacologic emergencies: overdose, drug reactions, poison
o Hematologic: anemia, coagulation disorders, thrombotic disorders
o Infectious disease: treatment of multiple infections and recognition of and treatment of sepsis
o Nutritional: prevention, recognition, and treatment of malnutrition
 To take part in the out of hours on call anaesthesia service according to agreed weekly and monthly rosters.
