comparison between them to evaluate the progress or the
downfall in the providence of such healthcare facilities inside the
Emirate Abu Dhabi.
The U.A.E.’s healthcare sector has dramatically expanded over
the past four decades. At the time of the U.A.E.’s founding in

trend of 2013.it shows less Fluctuations.

In 2015-The variations in trend is visible. Trend goes slightly down with the number of
dentists that is 56 then the line remains regular until it reached at point ‘clinics’ 423 and
it moves down slightly then increased slightly.
In 2017- The trend is a straight line with no variations in any of the Category. In 2017
the number of healthcare facilities across all the categories increased at a visible rate.
Trends across each of the Healthcare Facility (Each Type)
Number of Hospitals in 2013 were 39, in 2014 it increased by 6 more hospitals reaching
45.
In 2015 again 6 more hospitals were built reaching 51 hospitals. In 2017, 9 new
hospitals were constructed reaching 71 hospitals in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi. This
increase is due to the government investment in healthcare industry. Seha -the health
regulatory authority is always spotting out the ways to improve healthcare facilities
throughout the UAE.
Government Hospitals in 2013 were 14,in 2014 and in 2015 it dropped by 2
government hospitals reached 12 and in 2015 increased again by 3 more public
hospitals reached 15.The increase in government hospitals does not occur at a faster
pace most probably because people does not prefer getting treated by public hospitals

rather they rely more on private hospitals as they offer more better facilities to the
patients.
Private Hospitals: The Number of Private Hospitals increased dominantly across all the
four years in the emirate of Abu Dhabi due to the presence of more private insurance
companies to finance the cost. Private hospitals do not have the burden to follow the
compliance regulations of the government while public hospitals have to follow the
government regulations strictly.

Clinics: -In 2013, there were 335 clinics which rose to 362 in 2014 and then increased
by 61 more clinics in 2015.In 2017 the number of clinics rise up to 277 more clinics
making the figure to reach 700 clinics in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi. The reason for the
rise in the number of clinics is because more new cities are developed in Abu Dhabi.
Hence there is need for more clinics to provide health facilities for the patients. Clinics
are accessible by the patients more easily as they are located near to their houses. It
saves time and cost of going to Hospitals which lie at a greater distance from their
homes.
Pharmacies: - In 2013,there were 502 pharmacies, this number rose to 557 in 2014
with the increase number of smart pharmacies across Public hospitals such as SKMC
and Corniche Hospital and some other public Health centers in Sheikh Mohammad bin
Zayed City. The number of Pharmacies then increase to 637 in 2015.The number rose
to 802 pharmacies in 2017.The reason of constant increase is because pharmacies
ensure proper management and intake of medicines for the patients of acute as well

chronic diseases such as diabetes, asthma and hypertension. The Pharmacists and the
physicians together help the patient to properly use medicines. Hence Pharmacies are
very necessary for proper patients care.
Health centers:- In 2013,there were 587 health centers ,the number rise to 629 in
2014, then it increased by 758 in 2015.In 2017 the health centers in UAE reached to a
huge number of 944.Health care centers offer multidisciplinary services to patients such
as furnishing of medicine, medical or surgical treatment, nursing, hospital service, dental
service, optometrical service and any other services for better health. In Abu Dhabi
some of the healthcare centers are Al Bateen Healthcare Center, AL Maqtaa Health
care Centers, etc.

less physicians reaching 270.In 2015, The number of Physicians again rose to 34 more
physicians as compared to 2013 and it reached 304 physicians. In 2017 the number of
physicians jumped to 326 that is 22 more physicians as compared to those in 2015.The
reason that the physicians dropped in 2014 by ten less is most probably due to
licensing issues.

optimum rate
across all the four years in 2013,2014,2015 and in 2017.The number of Beds

of the admitted patients. The decrease in number of patients is either due to patients

Dhabi while in 2014, 1,18,378 patients got admitted, the number dropped by 622 in

as compared to 2014.Suddenly in 2017 the number of patients admitted again
increased by 1097 more patients as compared to the patients in the year 2015.The
number of patients increased 118297 patients in 2017.The increase in number of
patients in 2017 is most probably due to hypertension, Asthma ,diabetes ,obesity
,cancer ,CHF and other related diseases among the citizens as well as expats living in
Abu Dhabi.

Smart Pharmacy System Implemented in 2014 in Abu
Dhabi: -
In 2014, the smart Pharmacy system was implemented in UAE in the emirate of Abu
Dhabi across its public sector hospitals such as The Sheikh Khalifa Medical City, AL
Rahba Hospital, Tawam Hospital, Mohamed bin Zayed Healthcare Centre, Bani Yas
Health Centre and Oud Al Touba Diagnostic and Screening Center. The pharmacy of
Mohamed Bin Zayed Healthcare Center was the first one to carry this system. In Smart
Pharmacy system, first the details of prescription are fed in Robot, medicine is picked
by the Robot, Robot then print out the patient’s information and send it to the window of
the pharmacist in around 8 to 10 seconds. This system has proved successful as it
enhanced the accuracy of prescriptions, reduced the number of extra prescriptions and
decreased waiting times.
