QR Code Milestones 1994 Toyota hires Denso Wave Company to use their 2D Barcode called QR(quick response) to track auto parts. 1994 Frank Hudetz conceives of the idea to scan barcodes which would link to the internet via an Indirect method and starts patent process. 2001 Hudetz Patent is issued in US and Europe. Assigned to NeoMedia
QR Code Milestones 2005 – Japan’s only phone company, Dai Nippon working with device makers enables scanning of direct QR Codes for Japanese citizens. 2008 – Microsoft launches Microsoft Tag – an Indirect method and proprietary code. 2008-09 – U.S. and European phone companies, device makers and software companies begin widespread testing of direct and indirect code scanning.
QR Code Milestones 2010- Google begins big push for all retailers to use QR Codes. 2010-Best Buy incorporates use of QR Codes in all stores and on all store items. 2011- US Postal Service offers incentives for marketers to use QR Codes on all mail. 2011 – Over 35% of US Adults own a SmartPhone and that number expected to be 50% in 2012
QR Code Adoption Trends 2011 Code Scanning has increased 600% over last year. Over 125 countries scan everyday. Most scans occur in retail stores. 2D scans have now outpaced 1D(UPC)
