What is a social studies thematic unit you would like to use with your students? Why do you feel this theme is important? How could you use this theme to bridge the gap between home and school for social studies learning? What are the assessments for the social studies text like for your school? Homework # 2 Using a graphic organizer of your choice, create a basic outline for a social studies theme that could be taught over the course of one month or longer. Choose a topic that includes two or three units that flow in an orderly sequence. Display the unit titles in the graphic organizer with lesson titles, topics, and objectives that are aligned to the standards. Full lesson plans are not required. Create a rationale statement as well as a student-friendly title for the entire theme. Include sections on your graphic organizer for culminating activity ideas, field trips, guest speakers, and other resources, including literature. Design at least two authentic assessments that address your topic; one formative and one summative. Homework # 3 Assignment: Student Prompts/Teacher Directions 1) Individual: a) Benchmark Assignment: Integrating Science and Mathematics i) Create a unit plan integrating science and math content of fractions, decimals, and/or percents. ii) Ensure you have listed each of the science (NSES)) and math (NCTM) standards to include learning goals and objectives. iii) Create the unit plan including the following: (1) Clear-cut objectives that align to standards (2) Relevant materials and resources (3) Differentiation of instruction to address the diverse needs of students. Name the differentiation strategies for the specific diverse groups. (4) Problem solving and inquiry strategies (5) The 12 science processes (6) Concrete manipulatives to help develop science and fraction/decimal sense (7) Informal and/or formal assessment that align with objectives (8) Authentic, formative and/or summative assessments (9) Allow for student reflection iv) Write a narrative of 1,000-1,250-words that addresses the assignment criteria, gives specific examples from the unit plan, and state your rationale. v) · Make sure that I can clearly see each individual day, you can choose to complete your unit plan by doing 5 lesson plans and attaching them all together, but you are not required to do that or use the lesson plan templates for this assignment. vi) Prepare this assignment according to the APA guidelines found in the APA Style Guide, located in the Student Success Center .
