Launched called Six Degrees. It
allowed users to create profiles
and become friends with other
users. This was also the time
that AOL instant messenger was
started.

Jonathan Abrams
The social media platform
Friendster launched with
over 90 million registered
users.

Reid Hoffman launched
LinkedIn, the first social
networking site focused
on business networking.

Mark Zuckerberg launched

Facebook. Today 1 out of
every 13 people globally are
on Facebook. Facebook
started out as a Harvard only
social network, but then
expanded to schools,
businesses and eventually
everyone.

Social Media Becomes Social
Business. Social media sites
become the new way that
people find out and search
for information . Social
media breaks demographic
barriers. Approximately 84%
of all people 15 and older
participate.

need to connect to
others still dominates
the world of
technology.
