Jean-Luc Dormoy

“Foreseeable t rends in t he development of a societ y of humans and agent ”

Dr. Jean-Luc Dor m oy is curr ently engaged in the cr eation of a new com pany deliv ering digital products and
serv ices for personal use at hom e.Until recently , Jean-Luc Dorm oy was based in Yello Strom in Cologne, where he
was in charge for the EDF Gr oup of the European Pr ogram m e on Hom e Technology and Sm art Metering, or «Sm art
Grid on the custom er side».. During his two y ears in this position, Jean-Luc Dorm oy has uncov ered the activ ities in
France – EDF SA – the UK – EDF Energy – and Germ any – EnBW and Yello Strom . He was instrum ental in projects
such as the Yello Sparzähler, which is a sm art m eter sold to custom ers, and inthe launch and funding of nation wide
sm art grid projects in France and the UK.Form erly , Dr Jean-Luc Dorm oy was in charge of Program m e Strategy for
Software and Silicon Architectures at CEA-DRT, from 2 003 to 2 008. CEA-DRT is a technological research ensem ble
with about 3 ,000 researchers and 4 ,000 staff with three units: LETI (m icr o and nano technology ), LIST (software
intensiv e sy stem s), and LITEN (new energy technology ).There, Dr Dorm oy contributed to the creation and was a
m em ber of the Board of the ARTEMIS Joint Undertaking on Em bedded Sy stem s, a 2 .5 billion € PPP between the
European Com m ission, 2 0 EU states, and industry and research. Dr Dorm oy has been part at m anagem ent lev el of
m ajor industry and research initiativ es in France and in Europe: poles de com pétitiv ité MINALOGIC and
SYSTEM@TIC, National Research Agency in France, ITEA2 Third Roadm ap on Softwar e-Intensiv e Sy stem s.Jean-
Luc Dorm oy is a founder of the Kalray com pany , which is up to put on the m arket a m any core chip together with its
parallel program m ing env ironm ent. Form erly , Dr Dorm oy worked at EDF R&D as a research engineer, project
m anager, and adv isor for software technology . Dr Dorm oy was trained as a m athem atician at the Ecole Norm ale
Supérieure de Saint Cloud, and has a PhD in Artificial Intelligence. He is the author of about 40 rev iewed scientific
papers.

Abst ract : In this talk, we intend to giv e a social and hum an v ision of the future of IT from our experience
in innov ativ e industrial dev elopm ent and B2 B and B2 C m arkets. The starting point is to analy ze how the
IT industry has been dev eloping since its inception, and how it has em bedded deeply into the hum an society . From
this, we can distinguish a num ber of patterns on its v arious facets: sociological, econom ical, technological. We’ll
show in particular how serv ices tend to belong to three different kinds, Me, Group and Society . We shall show that
this im pacts existing organizations and sy stem s, and push to rebuild them in a «bottom up» fashion, with the
indiv idual user at its center. This user has to be helped by a num ber of Me serv ices. In turn, these serv ices, if they
are able to fulfill a num ber of conditions, participate on their own to the global society , both on the real and v ir tual
sides. They can group in Group serv ices, which are defined by a num ber of rules of ownership and behav ior. And
they can ev entually fulfill Society lev el serv ices, deliv ered on a par to all the – hum an – agents. We shall illustrate
in exam ples how this has started to happen in v arious applicativ e dom ains such as the electric v ehicle and m ore
generally transportation, or energy production, deliv ery and consum ption. We shall also focus on technological
conditions that digital agents m ust fulfill to enable this ev olution, which can be grouped in 3 categories: autonom y ,
content m anagem ent, and interaction with the phy sical world and hum ans. From this «m arket and industry to
technology » journey , it will be up to the audience to m ake the rev erse trip in the following discussion.

François Pouilloux

“Ext ract ing named ent it ies at web scale for compet it ive int elligence”

François Pouilloux is currently the Chief Technology Officer and a cofounder of Ixxo, a French SME based near Ly on,
prov iding web m ining and online com petitiv e intelligence solutions that quickly and efficiently turns web search
into actionable business inform ation. Since the inception of Ixxo in 2 002 , François has been prov iding technological
insight for Ixxo products and serv ices, and is now focused on dev eloping and m anaging internal R&D projects and
academ ic collaborations. He is an activ e m em ber of the industr y group in the Web Intelligence Rhône-Alpes pr oject,
an initiativ e launched by a consortium of Web Intelligence researchers from local academ ic institutions and
supported by public funding from the Region Rhône-Alpes, whose goal is to establish locally an integrated,
m ultidisciplinary , and European leading research com m unity in the area of Web Intelligence. Form erly , François
was a software architect and expert at Lotus Software and Unilog, where he acquired a 2 0 y ears gr ound experience
deliv ering com plex sy stem s in v arious sectors with international team s. He was trained as an engineer at the
Grenoble Institute of Technology , where he got a Master of Science in Industrial Process Design and Materials
Science.

Abst ract : Businesses of all sizes hav e now realized that the Web is an inv aluable resource for com petitiv e
intelligence, and consequently business decision m aking. But m any hav e trouble collecting targeted & useful
inform ation, and are often further ov erwhelm ed by the tim e required for analy sis & m onitoring. On another hand,
text m ining techniques hav e becom e widely used for inform ation analy sis in the scientific com m unity in general,
and are now ubiquitous in m ost Web Intelligence fields. With the av ailability of serv ices such as Google Prediction
API, or m ature open source software such as GATE, RapidMiner or NLTK, one can expect a m uch wider adoption of
text m ining and associated m achine learning techniques by expert dev elopers. But how can these techniques benefit
to the daily life of a wider business audience? As com petitiv e intelligence is often focused on products, people,
custom ers and com petitors, there is an added v alue for sy stem s prov iding analy tics on these entities, whose
recognition is fundam ental to text m ining and sem antic analy sis, and consequently is still under activ e scientific
inv estigation. In this talk we will tour som e of the specific requirem ents and options for building an efficient Web
based com petitiv e intelligence sy stem with nam ed entity analy tics. We will see how som e sav v y sim plifications can
help to ov ercom e com m on issues such as Web scale and Web content noise, and finally deliv er acceptable usability
and v alue for non-specialists, business users.

Dr Dorm oy was trained as a m athem atician at the Ecole Norm ale Supérieure de Saint Cloud, and has a PhD in Artificial Intelligence. He is the author of about 40 rev iewed scientific papers. Abst ract : In this talk, we intend to giv e a social and hum an v ision of the future of IT from our experience in innov ativ e industrial dev elopm ent and B2 B and B2 C m arkets. The starting point is to analy ze how the IT industry has been dev eloping since its inception, and how it has em bedded deeply into the hum an society . From
  • 2. this, we can distinguish a num ber of patterns on its v arious facets: sociological, econom ical, technological. We’ll show in particular how serv ices tend to belong to three different kinds, Me, Group and Society . We shall show that this im pacts existing organizations and sy stem s, and push to rebuild them in a «bottom up» fashion, with the indiv idual user at its center. This user has to be helped by a num ber of Me serv ices. In turn, these serv ices, if they are able to fulfill a num ber of conditions, participate on their own to the global society , both on the real and v ir tual sides. They can group in Group serv ices, which are defined by a num ber of rules of ownership and behav ior. And they can ev entually fulfill Society lev el serv ices, deliv ered on a par to all the – hum an – agents. We shall illustrate in exam ples how this has started to happen in v arious applicativ e dom ains such as the electric v ehicle and m ore generally transportation, or energy production, deliv ery and consum ption. We shall also focus on technological conditions that digital agents m ust fulfill to enable this ev olution, which can be grouped in 3 categories: autonom y , content m anagem ent, and interaction with the phy sical world and hum ans. From this «m arket and industry to technology » journey , it will be up to the audience to m ake the rev erse trip in the following discussion. François Pouilloux “Ext ract ing named ent it ies at web scale for compet it ive int elligence” François Pouilloux is currently the Chief Technology Officer and a cofounder of Ixxo, a French SME based near Ly on, prov iding web m ining and online com petitiv e intelligence solutions that quickly and efficiently turns web search into actionable business inform ation. Since the inception of Ixxo in 2 002 , François has been prov iding technological insight for Ixxo products and serv ices, and is now focused on dev eloping and m anaging internal R&D projects and academ ic collaborations. He is an activ e m em ber of the industr y group in the Web Intelligence Rhône-Alpes pr oject, an initiativ e launched by a consortium of Web Intelligence researchers from local academ ic institutions and supported by public funding from the Region Rhône-Alpes, whose goal is to establish locally an integrated, m ultidisciplinary , and European leading research com m unity in the area of Web Intelligence. Form erly , François was a software architect and expert at Lotus Software and Unilog, where he acquired a 2 0 y ears gr ound experience deliv ering com plex sy stem s in v arious sectors with international team s. He was trained as an engineer at the Grenoble Institute of Technology , where he got a Master of Science in Industrial Process Design and Materials Science. Abst ract : Businesses of all sizes hav e now realized that the Web is an inv aluable resource for com petitiv e intelligence, and consequently business decision m aking. But m any hav e trouble collecting targeted & useful inform ation, and are often further ov erwhelm ed by the tim e required for analy sis & m onitoring. On another hand, text m ining techniques hav e becom e widely used for inform ation analy sis in the scientific com m unity in general, and are now ubiquitous in m ost Web Intelligence fields. With the av ailability of serv ices such as Google Prediction API, or m ature open source software such as GATE, RapidMiner or NLTK, one can expect a m uch wider adoption of text m ining and associated m achine learning techniques by expert dev elopers. But how can these techniques benefit to the daily life of a wider business audience? As com petitiv e intelligence is often focused on products, people, custom ers and com petitors, there is an added v alue for sy stem s prov iding analy tics on these entities, whose recognition is fundam ental to text m ining and sem antic analy sis, and consequently is still under activ e scientific inv estigation. In this talk we will tour som e of the specific requirem ents and options for building an efficient Web based com petitiv e intelligence sy stem with nam ed entity analy tics. We will see how som e sav v y sim plifications can help to ov ercom e com m on issues such as Web scale and Web content noise, and finally deliv er acceptable usability and v alue for non-specialists, business users.
