I see no reason why Gunpowder Treason should ever
be forgot.
Guy Fawkes, t’was his intent to blow up King and
Parliament.
Three score barrels were laid below to prove old
England’s overthrow;
By God’s mercy he was catch’d with a dark
lantern and lighted match.

• This letter was an attempt to warn
Monteagle not to attend the opening
of Parliament Monteagle at once
delivered the letter
to Robert Cecil.
• Fawkes was caught in the cellar beneath
the parliament buildings with the powder

8. Bonfire Night
• At the end of October children
begin to collect wood to make a
bonfire which will be lit on
the anniversary of the event.
• They make a life-size puppet of
Guy Fawkes with old clothes,
straw, newspapers and
papier mâché.

• Children take their Guys on the corner of
the street and beg passers-by for “A Penny
for the guy”.
