Community in HER Corner:
Her Corner (HC) started in 2011 as a neighborhood-based
group of female business owners who wanted to share
business experiences and collaborate with women in their
own community
•Groups of 12-15 members per neighborhood
•Members meet in each other’s homes over dinner
•Broad range of business sizes and years in business
•“No Direct Sell” rules and codes of conduct
•Set agendas and facilitators to remain on topic
•One-on-one connections outside the meetings
Neighborhoods of Chevy Chase and
Bethesda were first 2 groups formed

Let’s build MORE of these communities!
In 2012 we’re growing the groups to new neighborhoods so that we can
incorporate more members to share broader insights, invite better
speakers, plan or collaborate on larger events, and support even more
growing businesses!
•Goal: 10-12 groups by End of (EO) 2012 – Update: 15 planned in DC by Dec 2012
•Goal: 3 US Cities by EO 2013 – Update: On Track!
•Goal: 4 International groups by EO 2014 - Update: On Track!

- 10. A snapshot of a local meeting
Washington D.C.
Meetings are held every 2 months at rotating
member’s homes
•One or two members per meeting ask for a
“business review” if she wants to spotlight her
business
•All members get 10 minutes to make a business
request of their group
•Members pick a name out of a hat on the way
out and meet one-on-one for accountability and
peer-to-peer networking
•Once the group is established, accountability
teams are assigned to further encourage
progress and support
The objective:
relax, have fun, and learn a
little something!

A Speaker Series is held every 2 months on the months the groups don’t meet in person
•Members rank order business topics – these topics drive the agenda for the speaker series
•Following each speaker, optional conference calls are held to further explore the topic
•An online member-only network also provides opportunity for further discussion
•Prospective members are welcome to attend!
The speaker series is hosted and sponsored by American University’s
Kogod School of Business and their Professional Women’s Group

men – for either societal or personal reasons – unique stories dictate
how and when women grow their businesses
Her Corner wants to provide the resources women need when they
need them, and the encouragement and support to get there:
•Your own neighborhood group of peers and mentors
•Access to subject matter experts on member-driven topics
•Accountability teams and a personal referral group
•Referrals for locally recommended business services
•The tools to collaborate on immediate concerns
