Orfeas Organization's main purpose is to utilize free time by informing youth about international programs and encouraging participation and European citizenship. As an Orfeas volunteer, the document summarizer's tasks included organizing activities for volunteers, being a link between volunteers and the organization, carrying out projects/seminars/workshops, supporting local youth, developing Orfeas' webpage and social media, editing an E-magazine, and promoting volunteer opportunities. Initiatives during their time included workshops on discrimination, celebrating heritage days, English classes, and helping with other volunteers' environmental projects.
2. The main purpose of Orfeas Organization is
the utilization of free time, informing young
people about international and national
programs and the encouragement of their
active participations along with their European
citizenship. Furthermore, Orfeas is helping to
organize and support national programs of the
partner municipalities, heritage protection
activities of the environment and organizing
events, festivals, concerts. Through this
activities and through formal/non-formal
learning techniques Orfeas wants to develop
solidarity and promote tolerance and
understanding among young people in different
countries.
About
3. My main tasks as a volunteer
were:
•organising activities for the volunteers
Orfeas is hosting
•being the link between the volunteers
and the organisation
•carrying out projects, seminars,
workshops
•supporting the local youth, participate
is school workshops
•developing the webpage and running
the social media channels
of Orfeas
•edit and publish Orfeas E-magazine
about the EVS life
•promote the idea of EVS among local
youth
•be a contact person of Orfeas, e.g.
sending information, news and
propositions for future plans to partner
organisations
4. One of my main tasks was to prepare
group activities for other volunteers
with the help of my coordinator. So
me and my cooworkes were preparing
for other volunteers :
• cooking lessons and dance lessons
• movie nights
• joga classes or other physical
activities
• workshops, for example about:
communication in group, gender
discrimination, crisis managment,
sustainable development
or environmental care
• get to know each-other games,
icebreakers and
• teambuilding sessions
5.
6. As an Office volunteer I was responsible
for running the social media channels of
our hosting organisation .During my
staying we’ve started to use Instagram
and to share our EVS life and promote
the idea of EVS among the local
community. Thanks to the social media
channels we were calling Greek
participants to join Youth Exchanges,
for exmaple like the one on the poster
that’s it’s below in Turkey.
7. Running the Orfeas
E-Magazine
& Canva
This is something that I’m
really proud of.
I had the possibility to
learn how to use a Canva
program and edit, write
aritcles and improve the
design of the monthly
Orfeas E-magazine. My
articles you can read in
the editions from
November 2018-July 2019.
On Canva we were making
also posters or brochures
for our events or
workshops.

8. Initiatives during the program:
-board games night for the local youth
-workshops about discrimination in a public secondary school
-plogging action in the forest of Xylokastro
-workshops about globalisation in an English school
-language and culture lectures
-English classes for local children
-organising public events, for example: the World Heritage Day
and Day of Europe
-renovation of the long-term flat
-helping the short-term volunteers in their tasks
9. Here we have made activities under
the theme discrimination. We
played theatre with the kids, had
debates, talked about definitions of
discrimination and personal
experiences.
Of course we also presented
ourselves and tried to inspire them
to do volunteering projects like us.
10. On the main square of
Xylokastro we’ve
celebrated also the World
Heritage Day. This year
the theme of this day was
Rural Landscapes and we
wanted to be a part of the
celebration to raise
awareness of the
importance of its
preservation and
conservation.
12. On the 26th of June we had
the pleasure to organize an
event called: Run for the
environment – let’s go
PLOGGING! Orfeas was
arranging this event in
collaboration with the
French organization Kasmad
Trips in the frame of the
Erasmusplus program.
13. On time me and my Office coworkers
were preparing workshops about
globalization for the local youth. We
involved also other Orfeas volunteers to
work with us with the kids. The
workshops were quite intensive, because
we’ve prepared for the kids debates,
role-playing scenarios and etc. For us it
was also a great opportunity to present
our countries we are coming from to the
local youth.
14. As an Orfeas office volunteer we were
preparing English classes for the local
children in different ages. We were
using formal and non-formal learning
techniques, but also games and quizes to
make the lessons more attractive for
the kids.
15. Being a volunteer means also that
you need to be ready to help where
help is needed. So sometimes I was
helping after my work the short-
term volunteers, that are working
for Orfeas in their environmental
project. Together, for example we
were painting the fences of a
public schooll, preparing a Greek
taverna for a local feast or working
with plans.
16. Of course during my EVS I had the
possibility to travel during my weekend
or to take days off and go of a trip to
visit some places in Greece. I’ve met so
many amazing people during my staying
in Greece that for me this part: sharing
moments, long talks, exchanging views
and opinions with them was one of the
most important parts of my EVS
experience.
