Pune – July 1, 2015: Today Mercedes-Benz Research and Development India
(MBRDI) inaugurated its new facility. Spread across an area of 46,000 sqft with
capacity of over 400 people, it is located at Embassy Tech Zone in SEZ in
Hinjewadi.
Thomas Merker, Vice President - Body and Safety, Mercedes-Benz Cars
Development and Chairman MBRDI explained: “MBRDI plays an important
role within our global research and development organization. The new facility in
Pune marks another milestone and allows us to expand while still being close to
both our Mercedes-Benz plant and our relevant automotive suppliers. For us,
India is a strategic location as emerging market, for the competent talent pool and
global supplier network."

especially for certain areas of engineering and developments related to Interiors,
Exteriors, Powertrain, PLM, IT development and localization. We are equipped

About MBRDI
Mercedes-Benz R&D India (MBRDI), headquartered in Bangalore was founded
in 1996 as a captive unit to support Daimler’s research, IT and product
development activities. It focuses on topics ranging from computer-aided design
and simulations (CAD, CAE) for powertrain, chassis and exteriors to embedded
systems, telematics and developing various IT applications and tools. The
satellite office in Pune specializes in interior component designs and IT
engineering.
The establishment of MBRDI is in line with the Daimler group’s ambition to
attract the world’s best engineering talent and form a global footprint for its R&D
and IT competencies. MBRDI also aims to partner closely with suppliers in India
for its activities in product development and IT services. It is now one of the
largest R&D centers of Daimler outside Germany.
Four entities of Daimler are currently operating in India:
Mercedes-Benz India Ltd. (MBIL) in Pune, is responsible for production and
sales and marketing of Mercedes-Benz passenger cars; Daimler India
Commercial Vehicles operates under the brand name Bharat Benz in Chennai,
covering all activities for commercial vehicles; Daimler Financial Services
operates under the brand Mercedes-Benz Financial Services for passenger cars
and Bharat Benz Financial Services for commercial vehicles; Mercedes-Benz
Research and Development India Private Limited (MBRDI) in Bangalore is the
largest Daimler Research and Development Center of Daimler outside Germany
and contributes to various RD domains and IT engineering.
