2. Plastic
• We took editing and narrative inspiration from the
short film Plastic, as it conveys similar meanings
that we wanted to re create in our film…
• These being…
3. Hidden/Moral Message
• The hidden message within Plastic is “be happy in
your own skin” emphasising the fact that people
shouldn’t have to worry about what they look like,
or what other people think of them. We also
wanted to recreate a hidden message similar to
this, that people shouldn’t be ashamed of who
they really are, and they shouldn’t be afraid of
their sexuality.
4. Camera Work
• Another thing that we took inspiration from within
plastic, and developed was the use of camera
work. The opening shot is a prime example, the
main character opens her wardrobe as the first
shot, which is the same within our shot, however
our shot is of a low angle, not a mid shot. This
emphasises the power of our main character,
straight away telling the audience she is our main
character throughout the short film.
5. Close Ups Of Phone
• Another technique that we took inspiration from, was
the use of the two characters contacting with each
other through technology. However, within plastic, they
call each other, where as in our short film they are
texting, which would be a more common way of
contacting your crush in todays society, as technology
has advanced. We also thought our target audience
could relate to this, as society and especially our target
audience age range are visual audiences, and would
be able to relate with the use of technology and
communication through out the film.
6. Storyline
• We also took some inspiration from Plastics
storyline, as the two characters also meet up and
go on a date together. However, we wanted our
film to convert common stereotypes and dominant
ideologies, so we chose our main character to go
in a date with another girl, instead of a boy. This
also emphasised the short film convention of a
twist in a short film, to grip the audience.
7. Titles
• Another inspiration that we took from Plastic, was
the use of titles at the end of the film. We thought
they gave off a very professional look to the film,
and ended the film well, as well as using the
colour scheme within them. There fore, within our
short film we also included scrolling titles, as well
as our colour theme, to link up the short film with
our other media products we had created in this
a2 project.
