• Aim: To show students the applicability
  of maths in solving “real world”
  problems
• Objective #1: Allow students to prove
  from first principals the best angle for
  throwing a shot put
• Objective #2: Cross subject Learning

• During a scheduled sports class, the
  students were filmed doing the shot
  put.
• Pre-filming training as part of Track
  & Field module

What is Mathcad?
• Mathcad is an important Computer-
  Algebra-System (CAS) used for
  engineering and making calculations
• We have used Mathcad for 3 years in
  Secondary school mathematics classes
• Compared to other CAS, Mathcad is very
  easy to use (after 3 hours’ instruction, our
  students were able to create their own
  documents

What do we do with Mathcad?
1.   Create dates (all students have their own dates)
2.   Solve a system of equations
3.   Define functions
4.   Create graphical representations of functions
5.   Analyse parameters
6.   Discuss the practical facts regarding shot put
7.   Feedback to PET
