Gibb Mansion Work Plan As we already have an idea how much funding we will have for this community art project it will help us to determine what type of materials we can use and if all three phases of  our community art project can be carried out. Budgeting: Secure Funds = $200.00-250.00 Time Commitment: 4:30 – Unknown; every Wednesday at Gibb Mansion  
Nicole Gilbert’s role with our collaboration between the Gibb Mansion and Pratt Institute is multi-faceted: She will be our intermediary between us and the Gibb Mansion She will help us market our cause and remind residents to show up in accordance with the schedule we will have worked out. We will have to meet her approval for possible community art projects. Whatever protocol and guidelines she gives us we have to follow in order not to cross any boundaries. If we want to engage with any of Gibb Mansion’s affiliations such as CIBS and HASA, it would be best to go to Nicole Gilbert first.
Marketing Opportunities Since Nicole Gilbert said she can help market our mission through posters and possibly a posting in their newsletter, this can help our own strategy of marketing our barbecue between Pratt Institute and the Gibb Mansion. For example by marketing the barbecue to important parties such as Gibbs Mansion’s funder PACC and HASA through Gibb’s newsletter  and invites may lead to more steps in social change : Possible outcome by strong marketing: When HASA sees Pratt Institute’s  interest in engaging with the Gibb Mansion they may rethink how they provide funding for Gibb Mansion’s residents.  Perhaps encourage them to provide more resources to help promote the well being of those that live with chronic illnesses.
Methodology Timeframe is limited, so it is crucial that we devise a methodology that would utilize our time to its fullest potential. One option might be to assign each person a particular work based on their strengths.  Vida: researching , compiling info & funding Jillian: planning and organizing Kevin: implementing the design     *Note: Of course each person will assist with the other person’s assignment but by each person given a particular focus will help expedite our short and long term goals.
Using Our Time Wisely How can we utilize our time to the fullest extent? Possible scenario: As Pratt Institute is walking distance to the Gibb Mansion we should commit at least  to every Wednesday’s after class.  From there we can add another day that fits with our schedules. Also as noted in our SWOT opportunities as both the Gibb Mansion and Pratt Institute are in walking distance we can tour each other facilities and discuss each institution’s significance, such as how these sites have historic value and enrich peoples’ lives.  
Group Critiquing Since communication is key, after each person finishes a task it should immediately be brought to the other members’ attention for group critiquing. This will ensure that all efforts has been examined and approved by everyone, as each of us have different aesthetic values, tastes, and opinions. Affiliations: We would like to use Gibb Mansion affiliations with Coalition for the improvement of Bedford Stuyvesant (CIBS) to find out more about themes we hope to explore that include: Affordable housing.  Civil rights. Public vs. Private. Potential for change. Perhaps we can do a video documentation when meeting them.
Utilize Marginal Numbers Since the majority of the Gibb Mansion occupants have underlying health issues is should be taken under consideration that some participants may not be in it for the long haul. That way we are not setting up ourselves for disappointment. Most of the residents at the Gibb Mansion are African Americans, so they may want to integrate cultural heritage with the community art project.
How to engage and sustain interest We should ask the art therapist questions regarding his/her own experience how we should approach people through the arts. Such as: What recent art projects did they enjoy the most? If people lose interest how can we encourage   them to remain engaged with the project?

  • 14. Issues this project may address: Housing, self-identity, stigmatization issues. Hopefully we can address the problem of group participation at Gibbs in their workshops and overall activities, by making this Project really engaging and exciting! If we can gear the mural to be based around ideas of affordable housing, substance abuse, then in a spirit of over- coming these and other challenges that many of the Gibb Mansion residents have may be a way to alleviate some of the stresses of their everyday lives.

Potential Projects: 1) Plywood Structure/Sculpture: Found materials, paint, text, story, multi-media, plywood, front yard, brushes 2) Outside Mural: Larger scale, paint, materials, design, brushes. Multiple Steps, workshops. 3) Picture Poster: Photomontage of the surrounding community, going out and taking photo’s 4) Finale: Project unveiling, BBQ party and postcards and t-shirts, which will entail: food, paper, t-shirts, ink, money, a party!!!
