Overview: “Information Retrieval Paper - Part 1”
This Module you will begin to develop an Information Retrieval
Paper. This Assignment focuses on identifying appropriate
evidence-based nursing practices related to specific problems
you may identify as you work in the healthcare/workplace
setting.
The goals of an Information Retrieval Paper are to (1) practice
using APA format, (2) summarize and examine the strengths and
limitations of research articles, and (3) prepare you for the
Nursing Research Course where you will write a research paper
using the skills you have learned completing this Information
Retrieval Paper.
As a part of your Information Retrieval Paper, you will begin
development of a research question using PICO format. Chapter
10 of the Role Development text book explains PICO. Be sure
to develop your research question and then just below your
research question delineate what the P, I, C, and O components
of your question are.
For this Module 3 Assignment you will prepare a Title Page in
proper APA format for your Information Retrieval Paper,
identify three peer-reviewed articles, and summarize each
article using APA format.
It may be helpful to look at the outline for the entire paper
before you begin this Module’s Assignment. Assignments in
this Module plus in Module 4 and 5 will address the Information
Retrieval Paper.

Final Paper
Scientific Journal Article Critique
Being able to read and critically analyze scientific journal
articles is an important part of learning and applying scientific
research to environmental management. Through the first four
weeks of this course, you have become more familiar with the
various components of scientific literature by reading and
writing sections of your own. For your Final Paper, read and
critically review the journal article selected in Week Three of
the course. To begin, read “Using a Scientific Journal Article to
Write a Critical Review.” Next, utilize the information from this
week’s reading to critique the selected article. The critique at a
minimum should contain the following information:
Introduction (about two pages)
Briefly summarize the journal article selected including the full
citation for the paper, the purpose of the study, the methodology
utilized, the results obtained, and the conclusions drawn by the
author(s). Utilize questions posed in the “Analyze the Text”
section of this week’s readings to develop this section.
Body (about four pages)
Highlight both the strengths and weaknesses of each section of
the paper (Introduction, Methods, Results, Discussion). Utilize
questions posed in the “Evaluate the Text” section of this
week’s readings to develop this section.
Conclusion (about four pages)
Discuss the significance of the research. Utilize questions posed
in the “Establish the Significance of the Research” section of
this week’s readings to develop this section.
Your paper must be eight to ten double-spaced pages in length
and formatted according to APA (6th ed.)
