2. In what ways does your media product
use, develop or challenge forms and
conventions of real media projects ?
My project uses some real crime/drama/gangsta media codes and
conventions for example they deal with drugs money and criminal
activity which you see in most if not every crime/gangsta films also
the characters are young and use a lot of slang which can be
associated with most British gangsta films, the way I challenge this is
that typically in a film like this most of the young characters are black
but in my product they are all white except from one, another use of
code and conventions is the use of social groups by the way the
characters speak behave and dress they come under the social
groups of chavs, and these are the main social groups used in this
genre of film
3. How does your media product
represent particular social groups ?
My product represents certain social groups , such as “chavs” aggressive
teenagers, of working class backgrounds , who repeatedly engage in anti-
social behaviour such as street drinking, drug abuse and rowdiness This is
shown in my product as the main characters can relate to this by the way
they behave and talk, also smoking cannabis and dealing with drugs, also at
beginning the main character Doug get attacked and has his bag stolen of
him
4. What kind of media institution might
distribute your media product and why
?
I think film 4 might distribute my product because they are known for
doing low budget productions like “slum dog millionaire” and also do films
similar to the genre in chose like “attack the block” which is similar to my
product and they are a small company so there are more likely to work
with independent film makers
5. Who would be the audience for your
media product ?
The target audience for my product would be teenagers and young adults who like
films about crime and gangs the age group this would be targeted at is between 16-24
mostly males , as they are more likely to like the violence and grittiness of the film
and also some of them might be able to relate to it
6. How did you attract/address your
audience ?
• I tried to attract my audience by trying to make it as realistic as I could so some of them
maybe able to relate to it and think yeah this kind of thing does happen in real life so by
doing this I am hoping it will draw there attention as it showing what could be happening in
the real word also I tried to make a bit comical as well by using the type of dialogue most
people would associate with the chav social group
7. What have you learnt about
technologies from the process of
constructing this product ?
I think I have learnt better understanding of cameras function and
how to use it more widely and effectively also feel I have learnt
how to use camera angles and different shot types more effectively
as well to portray the genre I am doing and how I want to film to be
perceived i feel that I have become more skilled at using editing
software such as iMovie and now know how to more things and
use other functions I didn’t know how to use properly before
8. Looking back at your preliminary task,
what do you feel you have learnt in the
progression for it to the full product ?
I feel that I have a better grasp of using camera shots
and angles more effectively Also I feel I have a better
grasp of continuity editing like the 180 degree rule, also
the use of shot reverse shots and match on match action
so now I don’t make as many mistake as i usually would
have also feel that have got better and setting up shots
and framing them and better at directing so telling the
actors how I want things done
