Blogging 101

  • 2. “Blogs…are easily created, easily updateable websites that allow an author (or authors) to publish instantly to the Internet from any Internet connection. They can also be interactive, allowing teachers and students to begin conversations or add to the information published there. Weblogs are the most widely adapted tool of the Read/Write web.” Will Richardson, Blogs, Wikis, Podcasts,and Other Powerful Web Tools for the Classroom
  • 3.  Posts (Chronological)  Comments = Responses to Posts  Podcasts (embedded player)  Video (can embed from YouTube etc.)  Slideshows (image gallery)  Events Calendar (request install)  Static Pages (One Post Per Page)
  • 4.  Articles written to be shared or published • Typically listed chronologically • Can be made “Sticky” (always appear on page) • New posts replace older post which are archived  Can include images, links, podcasts and more  Can be indexed with categories and tags  Categories - pre defined general groupings  Tags - “on the fly” keywords
  • 5.  Categories • Used to categorize a post • Can use multiple categories per post  For example:  Grade Level  Genre  Subject area  Tags • Also used to categorize a post • Can use multiple tags per post • Can be created “on the fly”
