6. She was born in Alexandria in 1874.
She later lived for a time in Frankfurt, Germany
(1906-1912). At that time, in the still Turkish-
occupied Macedonia, the heroic Macedonian
Struggle was being held, which ended gloriously
with its liberation in 1912.
Her first books were published in London.
Her books were mainly historical novels and
children’s books
In 1916, while the First World War was raging
(1914-1918), she settled permanently in Athens.
With her wonderful children’s books, she inspired
in children’s souls feelings of kindness, humanity
and patriotism. With these, she made them feel
proud about everything that Hellenism offered to
humanity and a deep love for the immortal values
of our Greek-Christian heritage.
Her books were loved and read a lot.
Unfortunately in 1925 she was diagnosed with a
disease that left her half paralyzed.
She passed away on may 2, 1941. Today, 60 years
after the death of the great writer, Greeks reads
her books with the same love.

7. I liked this book for many reasons. For a start, I liked
Magas because he is a dog with a sense of humor that
can be naughty sometimes but it made me understand
that dogs also feel, wonder and think, and sometimes
even more than humans. I really liked the relationship
he had with his family too. Also through his adventures
he teaches great lessons about real life. Finally, while I
was reading the book, I felt agony, joy, I realized how
unfair can someone be and I felt like I was participating
in the story.
My impressions

8. From the book, I really liked the
chapters that were referring in
historical events like the war that took
place in Greece in 1821.
Also, in one chapter, grandma was
telling the kids a true story about
captain Manolis. Captain Manolis was
an eldest member of the family who
took part in the effort of the Greeks to
liberate themselves. In this effort
captain Manolis met Markos
Mpotsaris. He was a hero in the war in
1821 so it was a great honor for captain
Manolis to meet him and talk with
him.
The story that grandma said was
really interesting and inspiring for me.
Things I liked about the book

In addition, there was another
chapter that captain Manolis met Miki
Zeza. Miki was one of the men that
fought for Makedonia in 1904. He died
heroically.

9. I also liked the fact that through Manga’s
adventures and stories we learn some very
important things about life.
Some more things I liked about the book

For example some of these parts in the book are:
• Few happy dogs have a boss to bring them food. We, the many, struggle to live, we hardly win the rare bone we
grab, sometimes here, sometimes there.
• People are accustomed to calling other people "animals", "beasts", "four-limbed", to find and tell them
contemptuously that they do not think, do not feel, do not judge. I heard it and I hear it. But I never got used to
it. Why is it contemptible to be called an animal? Why is it an insult to be four-legged? Or does the number of
legs make the value of the living? Or do we not feel? Do not we judge? Don't we love? Do we not suffer the
same, if not more than humans? You do not have the ability to understand us, while we always mean you with
a single look, with a gesture of yours, even from the tone of your voice alone, no matter what language you
speak.
• Living on the streets with Afratos made Mangas realize that he should be more skeptical before he acts or
judges other people and their actions.
• Strong are not only those who have strong teeth or physical strength. Strong are also those who have other
abilities, which are called perseverance, courage, momentum, intelligence, decision, will, endurance.
