EASA PART 66
AIRCRAFT MAINTENANCE LICENSE
What is EASA?
• The abbreviation EASA stands for European
Aviation Safety Agency which is the only
regulatory and enabler aviation body in
operation, maintenance, training, production and
all other relevant subjects, established by EU
member countries.
• One of the main properties making EASA differ
from other authoritarian units is its uniform
structure not permitting different procedures and
regulations.
What is EASA?
• Established on 28 September, 2003 and
located in Cologne, Germany. It has 32
member states and all of these states has their
own national aviation authorities bonded to
the center.
• Citizens and/or organizations of non EASA
member states also have the opportunity of
gaining the rights given by EASA in case of
complying with the requirements of EASA.
What is EASA Part 66?
• EASA Part 66 contains the information about
maintenance license and the requirements to
be met by maintenance staff who is
responsible for maintaining aircraft flying
within the Europe skies. As stated before, non
EU citizens also may get this license without
any loss of a right.
What is EASA Part 66?
• EASA Part 66 aircraft maintenance license has
fastly improved for 10 years and is valid within
193 countries at the present time such that
national and regional authorities even like
FAA(Federal Aviation Administration) and
TC(Transport Canada) consider EASA Part 66
license valid in their own zone.
What is EASA Part 66?
• Aircraft maintenance technicians and engineers
may work in different maintenance and
production sections with regard to their
knowledge and experience levels and
correspondingly different license categories exist
which can be considered as expertise in relevant
part.
• Aircraft maintenance license categories vary also
depending on the type of aircraft and engine.
What is EASA Part 66?
Importance of EASA Part 66
• Because the aviation industry which has a
global structure and a direct or indirect
connection with almost all profession fields
needs a uniform shaped authoritarian
mechanism like itself and European countries
meet this need with the aid of high
technology and good organisation, that makes
EASA a necessity rather than a preference.
Importance of EASA Part 66
• Not to meet this need may cause the loss of
current opportunities in the near future, right
along with the deprivation of an international
network and a high profession status and
social life gained via EASA Part 66 license. As a
matter of fact, rising human resource need in
maintenance and operation is fed on staff
imports and the compliance with international
requirements is asked to these staff.
Importance of EASA Part 66
• The staff who performs the maintenance and
check tasks before/after operations during
which the airworthy of million dollar aircrafts
and the life of hundreds of person are the case
must be well trained and expert in the field.
As well the standardizations related to the
trainings must have the same skeleton
structure in this global industry.
What are the requisites?
• According to the EASA Part 66 regulation, the
candidate who will be a certifying staff must
have enough experience on operating aircraft
and prove his/her knowledge with
examinations.
• License applicants must be at least 18 years of
age and age for authorization is minimum 21
and there is no need to have a certain
technical training background.
What are the requisites?
• Aforesaid maintenance experience is
determined according to the education
background of candidate and requesting
license category. It is also possible to extend
the license to another category. Scope of the
license is qualified by type ratings added into
the license and for validity of the existing
license no need for further experience or
knowledge proof.
What are the requisites?
• It is required to complete the experience in Part
145 or Part M Subpart F approved maintenance
organisations, local approval is also acceptable.
• Another license requirement, the examinations,
is required to be written within EASA Part 147
approved maintenance training organisations or
within the structure of Agency. Otherwise
conversion or exemption is not possible.
