The Purpose of a Lean Sensei:
A Sensei -Challenge your Discipline it helps you to clear on your Process

Core Importance of Lean sensei: Delivery & Discovery
Delivery- A sensei Helps to motivate the people in thinking in
subservient to focus primary goals and plans also pulling people to think outside the
box. A Good Sensei help the organization to improve their Delivery Because
Organizations are built for delivery. Yet, new problems require new ideas. The sensei
role is a countermeasure to the overwhelming mental model of motivated thinking
with a pressure on delivery, which is optimize the organization for better collective
delivery, or what a coach does, which is help individuals improve their personal
delivery.
Discovery- The discovery mode is one of asking oneself how facts and
new people can completely change how we understood a situation and look for doors
where we thought were brick walls.
Thoughtfulness (Studying current delivery process to discover things work as
planned) Awareness (Making Leaders aware that markets are changing and that
current way of doing is no longer the best fit) Inventiveness (Pushing people to find
different answers to existing problems)
A good sensei will- Take you to the Gemba, discuss what the real challenges are,
prescribe exercises, Teach PDCA, Push you on to the next exercise.
? The two characters that make up the term can be directly
translated as "born before" and imply one who teaches based
on wisdom from age and experience. In general usage, it is used,
with proper form, after a person's name and means "teacher".
What he or she (Sensei) know?
What is the difference between a lean officer and lean sensei?
• Lean officers teach lean techniques to operators and frontline to eliminate
waste in process
• Sensei investigates waste and use problem solving to teach executives to better
understand their customers, their products or services, their delivery and how
to become more competitive.
A sensei must develop his or her exploration and knowledge by studying 1. The
business in its industry 2. Production Evolution 3. Production System history 4. Basic
Understanding of how people’s minds work.

A Successful Gemba walk
Management is obsessed with delivery, rightly so, the sensei’s role is to
focus on delivery. This is what makes successful Gemba walks both
incredibly enriching and very fraught. A Gemba walk makes the company
more competitive by 1. Clarifying a deeper understanding of the challenges
it faces and 2. Intensifying the collaboration, both from top to bottom,
Between executives and employees, and across functions.
The Aim of Gemba Walk:
• Good Observation
• Discussion
• Commitment
The main tool of sense-Ing is “helicopter Thinking” Starting the
discussion on a very details operational point and then Ascending to the
big Picture, seeing the strategic Implications of what is being looked at and
returning to the ground.
Helicopter Thinking
“There is a secret to the shop Floor as there is a secret to a magic trick.
Let me tell you What it is. To get rid of Muda you must cultivate the
ability to see Muda. And you must think about how to get rid of the
Muda you have seen. You Repeat this always, Everywhere, Tirelessly,
and relentlessly”.
To practice sensei skill, the first Self-development Project is to continuously
challenge your own ability to distinguish dumb Issues from deep syndromes. The
sensei’s role is to bring Gemba realities into the discussion. “Fact is Fact” used to
repeat one of our sensei, what can’t be ignores is that “Facts” will help some
executives with their own agenda, and hinder others so reactions can be unexpected.
A sensei’s job is to Point to problems, discuss ideals and sketch a way to look for
answers without ever giving a specific solution. This Hinges on an ability to pick the
right problems, which will be interesting and challenging enough to prick curiosity,
but not so outlandish or impossible looking that people dismiss them a hard balance
to find.
