The wooden altars of Se Cathedral Church and Bom Jesus Church were having multiple conservation problems. The scientific conservation of the polychromy wooden altarpieces was successfully carried out. The accretions were cleaned with cotton absorbent using the mixture ethanol, iso-propyl alcohol with few drops of distilled water with non-ionic detergent. The wooden altars were also found damaged in some portions and the same were consolidated and the mending works in some places were also attended. The wooden altars around the St. Francis relics were severely affected by dry termite especially at lower parts that has almost been eaten away by termites. In many portions in the lower levels of altars there are holes, lacunas; cracks are noticed by the result of termites. The consolidation of wooden altars had already been carried out as follows. First, the entire wooden altar especially the damaged portions are being injected with ‘Termiseal’ and then the lacunas were being filled with the mixture of saw dust, wood putty, Araldite carpenter. Then the portions were matched with the surrounding colours. The anti-termite treatment of all the church complexes was also carried out in the step of preventive conservation. The environmental parameters were also studied and some precautionary measures to prevent the deterioration of wooden fabric by the relative humidity have also been recommended. Now, the wooden altarpieces are in good state of preservation.

The traditional role of the conservator has been associated with the preservation of the tangible aspect of cultural heritage. Conservation science has been mainly developing along with material science and conservators have focused their efforts on the preservation of the tangible nature of artefacts. In numerous cases this practice has led to the underestimation of the intangible content of objects of cultural heritage in terms of the conservation methodology and practice applied. The traditional conservation principle of minimal intervention is gaining new meaning, as we have come to realise that an artefact’s material and structural integrity interrelates and sometimes comes to conflict with possible evidence of significant historical and social memory content. As social memory is related to the experiences of individual members of the society, conservators must develop approaches of documentation and conservation methodologies in order to identify, document and eventually preserve the memory reflections of the epresented societies by preserving the artefact’s intangible content. It becomes apparent that in order to safeguard the artefacts’ social and historical integrity and contribute towards the perception, appreciation and understanding of the cultural heritage, the conservators have to preserve and document the artefact’s intangible content that reflects social memory.

Today, tourists may come to a destination within the scope of gastronomy tourism to taste foods belonging to that specific region and taste different flavors, and also to get to know various cuisines. Gastronomy activities need to be carried out and also within this context culinary museums need to be established in these destinations both to develop gastronomy tourism and to introduce cuisine, local foods and the history of these local foods apart from culinary culture. This study has been carried out with the purpose of introducing gastronomy and culinary museums founded in our country to introduce and sustain regional and traditional culinarycultures.
