Ancient China had many important inventions and developments. China was the first country to use silk and had a variety of foods, including meats like ox, mutton, deer, pig, and even dog. Rich people wore silk robes while poor people wore simpler clothing made from materials like hemp and straw. Society was patriarchal and Confucian, with men working outside and women managing the home. Architectural achievements included the Great Wall and the Forbidden City, which used walls for defense.

食物
People ate variety of meat, such as ox,
mutton, deer, pig and even dog.
人们吃各种肉类，像牛肉、羊肉、鹿肉、猪肉甚至狗
肉。
People baked owl and bird’s nest to make
soup.
人们用鸟巢来煮汤。

4. Legacy
People used gunpowder to make weapons.
人们用火药做火药武器。
Shen Kuo invented compass. After thirteen
century compass passed to Europe.
沈括发明了指南针。13世纪后指南针传到欧洲。
The Printing developed the world culture and
communication.
印刷术促近世界文化交流与发展。

5. Clothing
Poor men wore baggy hemp trousers, loose shirt
and fur-lined coat.
穷人男子穿麻线裤子宽松上衣和毛外套。
Poor women wore simple dresses. Their shoes
were made from woven straw.
穷人女子服饰简陋穿用稻草做的鞋。
Rich men and women wore robes of silk tied at
the waist with a large sash. They wore silk
slippers with wooden soles on their feet.

6. Architecture
The Great Wall was made of pounded earth
covered with stones. It was wide at the bottom
and narrowed at the top where there was a walk
way for guards.
长城是由夯土和石块建成。上窄下宽顶部有供士兵行走的
道路。
The Forbidden City were built with walls all
around them to protect them from enemies. In
side the most Important city, the emperor had a
palace which also had high wall, creating a city
within city.
故宫由层层城墙包围阻止敌人进攻。在故宫的中心皇帝用
高墙围筑城中城。

7. Structure of Society
Father was head of family .父亲是家里的首领。
Confucius taught people should respect older
people. 孔子教导人们要尊敬老人。
Men worked business outside the home .
男人在外经商。
Women don’t work, ran the home ,looked after
children. Poor women worked in the fields or as
servants in wealth homes.
女人在家照看孩子贫穷的妇女在田里干活或者去当仆人。
