2. Definition of
Measurement
The definition of measurement is using
accuracy and length to measure the width or
height of an object. You can also use it
for measuring time and angles.

3. Measuring Tools
Tools to measure length and width are rulers and
measuring tape,
Tools that measure amount and capacity: measuring cups
Tools to measure angles: protractors and sextants.
Units of length are used to measure areas and volumes
Tools to measure time: Watch or clock

4. Measurement Vocabulary
Definitions
mass- amount of matter an object contains
weight- a measure of the effect gravity has on a object
volume- measure of how much space it takes up
destiny- measures how heavy something is for its size
dimension- just a way to measure a geometric figure
like length, width and depth

5. Metric System
The metric system is the most commonly used system in
the world. The easiest way to remember the most
commonly used measurements are King Henry Doesn’t
Usually Drink Chocolate Milk. King = Kilo, Henry =
hecto, Doesn’t = deci, Usually = Usually, Drink =
deka,Chocolate = Centi and Milk = milli.

6. Metric System

1 mm = same amount of space as 1 cubic centimeter
1 mile = 1760 yards
1 mile = 5280 feet
3 feet = 1 yard
1 foot = 12 inches
1 inch = 2.5 centimeter
5.9 cm= 59 mm
1 meter = 100 centimeters

8. Time Conversions
1 min = 60 seconds
1 hr = 3600 seconds
1 hr = 60 min
1 day = 1440 min
1 week = 168 hours
1 fort night = 14 days
12 months = 1 year

9. Other Facts
mass always stays the same no matter where you are
Imperial System is older than the metric system
Calculate destiny by dividing objects mass by volume
If object is solid, volume is measured in cubic
centimeters
Calculate by multiplying length by width by height

10. Different Measurement
Systems
The main system we use is the metric
system. Some other systems are
imperial system and the english
system.

connects with materials
Materials and measurement connect
because in order to make a material
they may have to measure using
centimeters or meters in order to
find out how much of something they
need.
